Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Traveling Superintendent to join our Carolinas Division, supporting projects throughout the United States. This role is ideal for a construction professional with well-rounded field experience and a strong background in interiors and office construction.

The Traveling Superintendent oversees all field operations on assigned projects, including coordination of subcontractors and self-performed work, enforcement of safety standards, schedule and quality management, and overall project execution. Projects range from miscellaneous maintenance and interior renovation work to small- and mid-sized ground-up construction. Assignments typically last 3 months to 1 year, with travel required.

Essential Functions

Manage daily field operations and supervise subcontractors on-site.



  • Ensure full implementation of Balfour Beatty's Zero Harm safety program.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules and logistics plans.
  • Monitor construction quality and ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and trade partners.
  • Lead, mentor, and support field staff to promote teamwork and professional growth.
  • Maintain accurate site documentation, reports, and close-out records.


Minimum Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Well-rounded construction experience, including interiors and office build-outs.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and project management software (P6 preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety and site logistics.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide; projects typically last 3 months to 1 year.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.


Preferred Experience



  • Degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • Experience managing small to mid-size ground-up and renovation projects.
  • Proven success leading diverse trades and subcontractor teams.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
