Main Duties & Responsibilities

Summary/Objective:

The Engineering Technician is
responsible for assembling components and parts to create finished products
according to technical specifications and quality standards. The role involves
working with various hand tools, power tools, machinery, and sometimes
specialized equipment to assemble and test products. The Engineering Technician
ensures that all assembly processes are completed accurately, efficiently, and
in compliance with safety and quality guidelines.

On-Site: This role is required to be on-site at the Commerce, CA location.

Key Responsibilities:

Assembly
and Production:

  • Assemble
    components, subassemblies, and finished products based on work
    instructions, blueprints, or engineering drawings.
    Perform
    mechanical, electrical, or electronic assembly tasks as required by the
    product type.
  • Use
    hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers) and power tools (e.g.,
    drills, pneumatic tools) to complete assembly tasks.
  • Ensure
    proper alignment and fit of components during assembly, adjust as
    necessary.

Quality
Control:

  • Inspect
    parts and assemblies for defects or damage before and after assembly.
  • Conduct
    functional and visual quality checks to ensure the finished product meets
    specifications and quality standards.
  • Test
    assembled products to ensure they function properly, identifying and
    addressing any issues or defects.

Testing
and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform
    tests on assembled products to verify performance, including electrical,
    mechanical, or software-based tests as required.
  • Troubleshoot
    and diagnose assembly issues or malfunctions and resolve them in a timely
    manner.
  • Record
    results of tests, inspections, and troubleshooting steps, reporting
    findings to supervisors or engineers when necessary.

Documentation
and Reporting:

  • Complete
    production logs, assembly checklists, and quality inspection forms.
  • Document
    any deviations from assembly procedures or product specifications and
    report them to management.
  • Maintain
    accurate records of materials used, work completed, and any changes to
    assembly instructions or procedures.

Maintenance
and Housekeeping:

  • Maintain workstations, tools, and
    machinery in clean and safe working conditions.
  • Ensure
    all equipment is properly calibrated and maintained, notifying
    supervisors of any malfunctions or required repairs.
  • Follow
    established safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipment
    when necessary.

Collaboration
and Communication:

  • Work
    closely with other team members, engineers, and supervisors to meet
    production goals and timelines.
  • Communicate
    effectively with team members about assembly processes, issues, and
    progress.
  • Assist
    in training new assembly personnel as needed.
  • Follow
    instructions from engineers and supervisors carefully to meet exact
    specifications and production goals.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

High
School diploma or equivalent (some positions may require a technical
certificate or associate's degree in a relevant field).

Experience:

  1. 0-2
    year of prior experience in an assembly or manufacturing environment is
    preferred.
  2. Experience
    with hand tools, power tools, and assembly machinery is a plus.

Technical
Skills:

  1. Ability
    to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and assembly
    instructions.
  2. Familiarity
    with measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers) and testing equipment.

Soft
Skills:

  1. Strong
    attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products.
  2. Ability
    to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
  3. Good
    problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues.
  4. Strong
    communication and teamwork skills.

Certifications
(Optional):

  1. Forklift
    certification (if required for handling large parts or materials).
  2. Certifications
    in manufacturing or assembly processes, such as IPC or Six Sigma, may be
    beneficial.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability
    to lift, carry, or move materials and components (up to 35 lbs).
  2. Prolonged
    periods of standing, bending, and repetitive motions may be required.
  3. Manual
    dexterity and coordination for using hand tools and assembly equipment.

Work Environment:

  1. Engineering
    technicians typically work in manufacturing plants, warehouses, or
    production facilities.
  2. The
    work environment may involve exposure to machinery, electrical systems,
    and other technical equipment.
  3. Safety
    procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), must
    be always followed.
  4. The
    position may involve working in teams or independently depending on
    production needs.

Compensation

In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $27/hr to $31/hr.

Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
