Staff Technical Service Engineer

Situation in organisation

Reporting to: Technical Service Group Leader

Job dimensions

Support core and new business for structural adhesives in the Mobility market.

Support multiple product lines and opportunities in coordination with distributors

New application ideation and development

Product recommendations for end uses

Certification of customer test requirements

Performance of required laboratory testing

Travel required (<50%)

Activities

Technical Service:

Provide technical support for owned applications and markets in North America.

Develop an understanding of field application and performance requirements, and be able to apply knowledge of application equipment to support off-site customer trials and complaints.

Lead specific market development projects

Develop and provide technical training for internal and external customers.

Respond to customer complaints.

Update constantly knowledge on new technologies and applications.

Business Development: Work with Marketing/Sales/BD or customers to test products for new applications and evaluate new market opportunities. Support Marketing/Sales initiatives through direct communication with customers to convey product capabilities, benchmarking studies and assistance with new technology. Participate in tradeshows and conferences related to the owned markets.

System and Procedures: Comply 100% with EHS and Quality management system policies and requirements. Ensure Chemists/technician are in compliance with all procedures.

Application Expertise: Serve as a sustaining resource to our customers for structural adhesives applications. Develop general application knowledge for a variety of technologies to support Bostik's customers and distributors.

Reporting: Provide regular reports as required (internally and to customers).

Context and Environment

Leverage knowledge of existing end use applications, customers, and allied suppliers to identify new product or business development opportunities. Provide technical service to implement smart solutions to current applications, new applications and new markets. Grow personnel skills through project leadership, mentoring and planned development opportunities.

Accountabilities

Support customers from ideation through commercialization.

Manage day to day laboratory activities.

Work in cross-functional teams (business, sales, marketing, research, PLM, operations...) to execute the strategy and discover customer concerns and opportunities related to adhesives and sealants.

Identify issues related to scale up, ongoing quality and process improvements.

Support customer testing and respond to customer inquiries.

Qualifications / experience required

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, material science or related field plus 5 years of relevant experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external resources. Ability to manage and lead multiple projects. Possess an open, enthusiastic, creative and innovative team spirit. Experience with adhesive and sealant chemistries, end uses and formulations preferred. Excellent computer and presentation skills.
