Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
UNC Chapel Hill is ranked eleventh in the US based on federal research. The Center for Molecular Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill represents the next phase in a legacy of scientific innovation and forward-thinking that is designed to meet the needs of both the current and future landscape of medicine. It builds on the strong foundation of the Gene Therapy Center, which for over two decades has led advancements in genetic research and therapeutic development to treat human diseases. The Gene Therapy Center established itself as an international leader in the development of Adeno-associated Virus ( AAV) vector technology and AAV gene therapy approaches. The AAV technology that was developed by the Gene Therapy Center has been directly or indirectly responsible for all FDA approved AAV gene therapies and current AAV gene therapies in clinical trials.

The Center for Molecular Medicine and Departments provide outstanding environments for ground breaking research and career development. Position Summary
The Center for Molecular Medicine in partnership with Departments of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Cell Biology and Physiology, Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology and Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill is seeking highly qualified candidates for up to three open tenure-track faculty positions in the broad areas of
* Basic research in viral entry and trafficking with applications to next gen viral vectors.
* Basic research into mRNA expression with applications to development of synthetic promoters and gene regulation
* Basic research into immunology with applications to vector immune response avoidance and repeat administration
* Novel animal disease models
* IPSC disease models
* Basic cell biology with applications to identifying novel therapeutic targets.

Positions are open-rank, and qualified candidates with PhD, MD, MD/PhD or DVM degrees with significant postdoctoral or early faculty experience are eligible to apply. The successful candidate must have an exceptional record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research vision, and will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative externally funded research program. We will consider any qualified candidates working with mammalian models, humans, or human IPSCs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD, MD, MD/PhD or DVM degree. Candidates must have a history of successful research in these disciplines of and demonstrate a high capacity to receive external, independent funding.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The successful candidate will have an exceptional record of publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research vision, and will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative externally funded research program.
