The Director Product Performance is responsible for evaluation, prioritization and leading decision-making regarding product performance and improvement by focusing on key business levers: membership (growth and retention), Operating Margin (network costs and utilization), and Operations Performance. This role will drive performance improvements through collaboration with network, pharmacy, clinical programs, risk adjustment, finance, actuarial, and operations, resulting in the most competitive position possible for the segment, while ensuring all key performance metrics are met. This position also organizes efforts to establish membership projections and collaborates on sales and marketing strategy through collaboration with internal and external audiences. The incumbent manages the day-to-day fundamentals of product performance and keeps matrix partners focused on efforts to support a specific segment. Perform other duties assigned.

Key Accountabilities:



  • Segment Performance

    • Builds cross functional teams to evaluate segment performance and develops and executes operational plans to driver performance improvement.
    • Partners with internal teams to ensure clinical programs, network rates, formulary and pharmacy programs and risk adjustment activities drive competitiveness & outliers are addressed
    • Leads definition of Key Performance Indicators that communicate segment goals and execution against those goals to the rest of the organization.
    • Regularly monitors performance of KPIs
    • Where performance is deteriorating, partners with appropriate team(s) to identify opportunities and oversee execution to ensure performance improves. Work issues to resolution with Matrix partners.


  • Special Projects

    • Represent Commercial on key programs such as affordability, national network, and other corporate initiatives
    • Lead select new growth opportunities such as expansion efforts that cross multiple commercial products


  • Governance & Leadership

    • Establish and lead the Commercial Work Teams and Leadership Governance meetings. This committee is comprised of representatives across the matrix whose teams deliver work of critical importance to the success of segment performance
    • Select committee participants, set meeting cadence, establish and communicate goals, set agendas, drive execution of agreed upon work, report progress to executives and escalate issues as needed.
    • Provide direction to direct reports
    • Support segment VP/GM to develop and execute segment priorities




Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, plus 10 years of relevant health care industry work experience beyond degree
  • 5 years management experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with key product performance levers.
  • Strong financial acumen, understanding of P&L management
  • Excellent knowledge of the marketing, sales, and distribution processes used in health insurance and related services and industry trends
  • Ability to lead through influence
  • Strategic thinking and planning, project leadership and execution, and general knowledge of operational platforms and third party capabilities


This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite, on average, 3 days per week. We are open to candidates located near one of the following office locations: Minnetonka, MN, Madison, WI, Omaha, NE, or St. Louis, MO.

The full salary grade for this position is $127,800 - $219,000. While the full salary grade is provided, the typical hiring salary range for this role is expected to be between $127,800 - $191,625. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation in addition to base salary.
