Summary Description:

The Sales and Operations Planning Specialist leads and executes the organization's sales and operations planning strategy. The purpose of this role is to improve the systems, tools, and capabilities within the organization pertaining to demand planning and forecasting for sales and operations.

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage the demand planning process across product categories, producing a rolling 18-month forecast and driving improvements in forecast accuracy.
  • Conduct demand, capacity, and scenario planning; validate and present data to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Corporate and Mill planning and logistics teams to develop, monitor, and adjust short- and long-term production and sourcing plans for optimal resource utilization and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate monthly S&OP meetings to achieve consensus on demand and supply plans, addressing strategic, product, sales, marketing, and capacity considerations.
  • Document and validate assumptions in demand and supply plans; monitor forecast accuracy and customer service KPIs.
    Partner with IT to design simplified reporting and processes that enhance business planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement and leverage best practices to strengthen the S&OP process.
  • Build strong internal relationships with customer-facing teams to ensure transparency and alignment across the supply chain.
  • Research and analyze business issues, escalating risks and providing insights and recommendations to improve results.
  • Collaborate on inventory management, including identifying slow-moving or obsolete stock and developing disposition plans with Sales.
  • Track performance metrics to identify opportunities and issues within S&OP and related processes.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Logistics to align demand and production plans with inventory, capacity, and external factors; develop mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Facilitate prioritization and allocation of supply when demand exceeds availability.
  • Communicate trends, drivers, and key takeaways clearly across functional teams.
  • Identify and implement supply chain initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs and waste, and apply lean principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Personal qualities

Required Experience & Education

  • Proven ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills; data-driven problem-solving approach.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills; able to prioritize, adapt to changing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ability to learn new technologies.
  • Experience managing relationships and facilitating meetings; strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in supply chain or understanding of supply-demand dynamics.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrating analytical thinking.

Required Skills

  • Technical proficiency with tools such as Microsoft BI and Excel; ability to learn Anaplan (prior experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills for both working and executive levels.

Preferred Skills:

  • Business acumen, sound judgment, collaboration, adaptability, and courage in decision-making.
