Come join our dedicated and caring team of professionals as a Medical Assistant III for our Common Ground program. This position will be based at our Venice Family Clinic on Rose Avenue, but will also work on our mobile outreach unit within Los Angeles County. With guidance and direction from the Outreach and Engagement Supervisor, staff R.N. and L.V.N., the Medical Assistant 3 for the Common Ground Program will play a vital role in helping reduce the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C in our community. Our program follows the Harm Reduction model which calls for the non-judgmental, non-coercive provision of services and resources to people who use drugs and the communities in which they live in order to assist them in reducing attendant harm.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in syringe exchange on site and out in the community, which includes providing sterile syringes and properly disposing of used ones.
  • Conducting HIV and Hepatitis C testing, counseling, and educating clients on safer injection practices, overdose prevention and ways to reduce harm to themselves and those around them.
  • Ensuring newly diagnosed HIV+ and/or Hep C+ clients are referred and linked to necessary medical services.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of participants, reviewing and completing data collection forms, and compiling data for monthly reports.
  • Providing support to co-workers in other duties assigned in the HIV prevention program.

Salary range: $29.46 - $38.87 Hourly

Qualifications
Required:
  • Documented evidence of completed Medical Assisting training and Medical Assistant Certificate.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)/CPR card and Phlebotomy Certification.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
  • Skill in administering injections and immunizations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and knowledge of general medical and laboratory procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and antibody testing, PrEP and PEP, community resources, Hepatitis C and STD knowledge, harm reduction, and syringe exchange.
  • Skill in providing individualized HIV health education, HIV testing and Counseling and Hepatitis C testing.
  • Skill in database management, maintenance, queries, and data entry.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care and de-escalation.
  • Ability to pass Basic Health Worker course and obtain certificate.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact in a professional manner with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to float/rotate to other facilities within Los Angeles County as needed.
