Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a skilled,Bioinformatics Programmer to support a broad range of computational and data-driven research initiatives. This role translates complex computational theory into practical research applications and requires deep familiarity with advanced IT, scientific computing, and data science methodologies. In this role, you will leverage principles of computer science, data science, computational biology, and cyberinfrastructure to develop and refine research tools, pipelines, and software components. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing algorithms, supporting HPC- and data-intensive workflows, and contributing to the development and evaluation of emerging technologies in high-performance computing, data analytics, and cyberinfrastructure. This position plays a key role in enabling innovative computational research across the Department's diverse scientific programs.

Hourly range: $37.60-$78.35

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer / Computational / Data Science, or Domain Sciences with computer / computational / data specialization or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in computation science, data science, statistics, or related field, with computer, computational, and/or data management experience.
  • Moderate knowledge of basic and multivariate statistics.
  • Demonstrated experience associated with one or more of the following: HPC hardware and software power and performance analysis and research, design, modification, Implementation and deployment of HPC or data science or CI applications and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to regularly interface with management.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Proven ability to successfully work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators.
