Location: Silverdale, Washington (Bangor)

Type: Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time

Compensation: $115,450.00-$121,809.02/annually (Tessera's compensation strategy is to position new employees between the minimum and midpoint of this range, depending on qualifications and experience.)

Tessera is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to lead, execute, and support all aspects of the company's Safety Program and contractual safety requirements. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a safety program that complies with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, DOD, Army, Federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.

The SSHO collaborates directly with the Site Manager, leadership team, Quality Manager, and Quality Control and Safety Technicians to ensure safety is fully integrated into the site's Quality Control/Reliability/Safety (QCRS) framework. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, proactive engagement, and a commitment to cultivating a positive, employee-focused safety culture.

Productivity, workplace safety, customer satisfaction, and the team's success are dependent on the leadership team position's efforts. The success of this position will draw from Tessera's leadership competencies: Mission and Values: Safety Leadership; Operations Excellence; Customer Service; and Servant Leadership.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure site operations comply with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and customer safety requirements.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA) for all site activities.

  • Lead safety inspections, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and notice-only events; prepare reports and conduct root-cause analyses using 5 Whys or HFACS.

  • Coordinate and deliver required safety training in accordance with regulations and the APP.

  • Maintain accurate safety data and ensure timely reporting in Workday and to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).

  • Support and train Safety Representatives and promote daily safety awareness.

  • Partner with site leadership to foster a strong, employee-focused safety culture.

  • Participate in safety meetings, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational or industrial safety, Industrial Psychology, Construction Safety or equipment field preferred.

  • 5 years minimum in Continuous occupational safety experience in a dynamic construction, trades or manufacturing environment.

  • Previous supervisory/management of general construction or general industry safety programs (managing safety processes, conducting hazard analyses, and developing and implementing risk controls) required.

  • OSHA 30 General Industry or Construction Industry course (may be web-based if the student is able to directly ask questions of the instructor by chat/phone.

  • Third-party (e.g. AIHA, BCSP) certifications such as Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, or Certified Industrial Hygienist are preferred, but not required

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
