DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Director of Programs

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Salary $60K - $63K annually

POSITION SUMMARY: The Aquatic Manager will oversee the daily operations of the aquatic venue and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for staff, members, guests. Specific responsibilities will include development, training, planning, management, budgeting and supervision of all aquatic programs and facilities. Oversee daily maintenance of (2) pools and (1) jacuzzi. The Aquatic Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

Required Education & Experience



  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing, training, planning, managing, budgeting, and supervising aquatic programs and facilities, including oversight of professional staff, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Swimming rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service skills



Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Aquatic Management, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in aquatics and/or recreation.
  • Experience in aquatic program development and administration.
  • Familiarity with Hawaii and local culture.



Certificates & Licenses



  • LGI/T Certification (required within 12 months of hire).
  • Annual certification and participation in The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program (required).
  • Valid Hawaii Driver's License and insured transportation.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (preferred).
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (preferred).



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Lead a comprehensive aquatic safety and emergency response training program, including regular lifeguard in-service sessions and staff training as recommended.
  2. Oversee daily operations and monitor all aquatic programs and facilities (e.g., swim meets, classes, clubs, events).
  3. Serve as the escalation point for member service issues related to aquatics; resolve concerns within 24 hours while modeling excellent customer service.
  4. Work independently and collaboratively with staff at all levels to be primary contacts for customer service issues.
  5. Ensure cleanliness and housekeeping to ensure center is show ready during operational hours
  6. Comply with all health and safety regulations set by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
  7. Manage and oversee pool preventive maintenance program.
  8. Develop systems to safeguard facilities, supplies, and equipment; maintain a safe work environment.
  9. Supervise aquatic staff, including coordinators, instructors, coaches, lifeguards, and clerical personnel.
  10. Conduct staff evaluations; review timekeeping reports; process absences, vacation requests, and personnel changes promptly in coordination with HR.
  11. Maintain clear communication with staff, volunteers, and participants through memos, meetings, schedules, newsletters, and one-on-one discussions.
  12. Create and update job descriptions for aquatic support staff.
  13. Prepare and manage the annual aquatic program and facility budget; provide input and respond to fiscal inquiries.
  14. Support center-wide events by ensuring appropriate aquatic staffing and leadership presence.
  15. Establish and enforce guidelines for food, beverage, and area usage within aquatic facilities.
  16. Maintain accurate records and reporting systems for statistics, volunteer activity, expenditures, and other required documentation.
  17. Maintain water chemistry records and enforce protocols accordingly
  18. Coordinate volunteer objectives, scheduling, and duties with the volunteer coordinator.
  19. Develop rental agreements and standardized usage fees for outside groups; ensure compliance with Salvation Army procedures.
  20. Attend staff and management meetings; participate in Advisory Council Committees as assigned.
  21. Operate TSA vehicles as needed.
  22. Collaborate with internal departments regarding pool availability and services; develop cross-functional programs.
  23. Ensure adherence to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics.
  24. Recognize and refer individuals' spiritual needs to ordained officers/pastors as appropriate.
  25. Maintain written emergency evacuation and fire drill plans for the aquatic center.
  26. Create and maintain safety documentation, including checklists for ride testing and slide dispatcher training.
  27. Maintain regular, punctual attendance; work a flexible schedule including holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  28. Protect employee and organizational confidentiality.
  29. Support the Director of Programs with special projects and requests.
  30. Perform other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



    1. This position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.
    2. Must be able to occasionally lift and carry over 100 pounds (life saving drills).
    3. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the aquatic programs.

    1. The Aquatic Manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills and can comfortably speak in public and in small group settings.

    EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

    Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), video projectors, sound-systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobiles.

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Most work will be at The Salvation Army Kroc Center Hawaii. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, long distances, night driving, and extended travel of three days or more.
