Job Summary

Reports directly to the Plant Manager and serves as a senior technical and strategic resource for the organization's EHS initiatives. Responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs. Oversee regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, incident investigation, and cross-functional training programs. Acts as a liaison with external agencies and internal leadership to drive a culture of safety and sustainability across all operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the organization's efforts to maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, corporate standards, and insurance/fire codes. Advises senior leadership on emerging regulatory trends and risk exposure.
  • Designs and manages advanced environmental programs including permitting, audits, and sustainability initiatives. Oversees wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and pollution prevention strategies. Ensures alignment with ISO 14001 or equivalent standards.
  • Conducts high-level risk assessments and leads facility-wide inspections. Coordinates with external auditors, insurance representatives, and government agencies. Develops and implements corrective action plans and long-term risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provides expert guidance on facility design, equipment layout, and process modifications to enhance safety and regulatory compliance. Collaborates with engineering and operations teams to integrate safety into capital projects and process changes.
  • Drives strategic initiatives to improve employee engagement and safety culture. Facilitates root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts based on committee findings.
  • Works with Service Division to align Safety Initiatives
  • Travel to Customer Sites twice a year to audit Service site safety conditions.
  • Leads investigations into occupational health risks including airborne contaminants, noise exposure, and ergonomic hazards. Oversee hazard communication programs and ensure proper monitoring and reporting protocols are in place
  • Oversee complex incident investigations, trend analysis, and reporting. Develops predictive analytics tools to identify systemic risks.
  • Manages employee restrictions and return-to-work programs in collaboration with HR and medical staff
  • Administers comprehensive noise monitoring and hearing conservation programs. Ensures proper signage, controls, and PPE compliance across all high-risk areas.
  • Leads annual inspections of lifting equipment and critical safety systems. Partners with maintenance and plant leadership to prioritize and implement safety upgrades.
  • Oversees plant security protocols and fire prevention systems. Develops and tests emergency response plans and coordinates with local emergency services.
  • Designs and delivers advanced safety training for new hires and existing staff. Partners with department heads to embed safety principles into daily operations.
  • Leads the end-to-end management of workers' compensation cases. Coordinates with insurance carriers, legal teams, and state agencies to ensure timely resolution and compliance.
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for medical services and security operations, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in EHS roles, including leadership of environmental and safety programs in industrial or manufacturing settings. Demonstrated expertise in hazardous materials management, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems; experience with data analytics tools preferred. Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field required, or equivalent experience; Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) strongly preferred.

Prior experience collaborating with Human Resources, Legal, and Operations teams on cross-functional safety initiatives.
