Department Summary:
We are looking for a science-loving person who will be part of an amazing team of research professionals focused on understanding platelet biology in a dynamic academic environment. This individual will be involved in scientific studies aimed at understanding how platelets are produced and how they contribute to disease processes like cancer, obesity, and aging. Under the general supervision of the investigator, they will perform cell culture and laboratory experiments in the fields of Hematopoiesis and Platelet and Megakaryocyte Biology. As experiments proceed, they will consult with PIs and lab members to determine necessary adjustments in design and implement these changes. There is room for scientific growth in this position, and we encourage applicants who are interested in working on an independent project once the primary skills are mastered.

Specific Area of Research: Hematopoiesis, Micro particles, Megakaryocyte/Platelet Cell Biology

Key Responsibilities:
  • Isolate primary megakaryocytes and platelets needed for weekly experiments.
  • Under the general supervision of the investigator, performs complex laboratory experiments in the field of cell biology including: cell culture, ELISA, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, general biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and microscopy.
  • Performs general laboratory animal work including: sterile technique, megakaryocyte isolation, bone marrow isolation, and tissue collection/preparation.
  • Records, reviews, and analyzes test results. Assesses quality of data and repeats tests as necessary to determine reproducibility of results.
  • Assembles data in useful format for presentation to the investigator, including normalizing and graphing results; presents data during various meetings and seminars.
  • Performs literature searches and helps to prepare presentations and written articles for publication; prepares literature for journal club presentations.
  • Supports general lab operations by purchasing research supplies, performing regular inventory of lab common stocks, helping maintain animal colonies, and culturing both primary cells and cell lines.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in STEM or Psychology is required.

Experience:
  • One year of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • The Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • The Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
