How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

As a Senior Package Project Manager II, you will serve as a key technical resource for SPX sales personnel and representatives while managing all aspects of customer service and full-cycle project management for assigned territories. The incumbent will lead order processing, manage change orders, ensure compliance and contract accuracy, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve customer issues, warranty claims, and quality system feedback quickly and effectively. This role is critical in driving customer satisfaction, protecting target margins, facilitating on-time shipments, supporting continuous quality improvements, and successfully managing multiple projects while fostering strong cross-functional relationships.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Lead Project Execution and Customer Management
  • Manage customer communications, project milestones, and change order processes to maintain margins and meet financial goals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order processing, submittals, and Sarbanes Oxley compliance across all assigned projects.
  • Collaborate regularly with suppliers, manufacturing plants, and internal teams to resolve project issues and maintain schedule alignment.
  1. Drive Continuous Improvement and Strategic Growth
  • Provide expert product knowledge, gather customer feedback, and contribute to product development and pricing strategies.
  • Identify value-added services and margin improvement opportunities while supporting Finance in timely cash collection.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, train project managers, support team strategy, and serve as backup for the Project Management Manager as needed.
  1. Manage Quality, Risk, and Compliance
  • Oversee warranty claims, risk mitigation, contract management, and insurance/bond requirements across global orders.
  • Conduct plant visits to ensure order accuracy, share lessons learned, and lead warrant service approvals and quality reviews.
  • Act as an agent of the Company, managing vendor purchase orders, and ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience & Skills

  • 3-5 years of project or construction management experience or related customer service experience
  • Engineering application and design experience
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management
  • Solid base of leadership skills

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain, preferred
  • Experience in the power plant or similar industry
  • Knowledge of HVAC, cooling towers, power plants, industrial processes and/or chillers, strongly desired
  • Aftermarket or distributor sales (representative management) experience, helpful
  • Familiarity with SAP, or other ERP systems
  • Project scheduling experience
  • Familiarity with engineering documents and history, desired

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • Project management certification, preferred

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period
  • Ability to travel to Olathe plant
  • Occasional lifting up to 5 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather
