Position Overview
The Humphrey School of Public Affairs is one of the nation's leading graduate schools of public policy and planning, offering master's and doctoral degrees that prepare students to advance the common good through leadership in public service.

As the School expands its commitment to undergraduate education, this inaugural position will play a central role in building and coordinating a new pathway for undergraduate students into public service. The Undergraduate Program Coordinator will support undergraduate degree plans, minors, and initiatives such as the NextGen Summer Policy Academy and the NextGen Service Corps, programs that introduce students to policy, leadership, and public engagement early in their academic journey.

This position serves as the primary contact for undergraduate students affiliated with the Humphrey School and is responsible for ensuring a high-quality, inclusive, and connected undergraduate experience consistent with the School's mission and values.

Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management and Oversight (40%)

  • Lead planning and implementation of the NextGen Summer Policy Academy.
  • Establish, advise, and coordinate the NextGen Service Corps at the University of Minnesota, in partnership with national and institutional networks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for undergraduate programs at the Humphrey School, ensuring alignment with University policies and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with Communications, Academic Programs, and Student Services to promote undergraduate initiatives and share student success stories.

Advising and Student Support (30%)

  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students enrolled in Humphrey-affiliated programs, including integrated degree plans (IDPs), minors, and other pathways.
  • Liaise with advisors across the University to monitor student progress and ensure degree requirements are met.
  • Support student academic success, wellness, and retention through proactive outreach and individualized coaching.
  • Serve as a connector for students exploring graduate-level pathways in public affairs and policy.

Program Development and Community Building (20%)

  • Direct and manage the development of future undergraduate IDPs in collaboration with School leadership and University partners.
  • Design and implement student development programming, including orientation, academic advising curriculum, and cohort-building activities.
  • Foster a sense of belonging among undergraduate students by developing community-based programming that encourages leadership, resilience, and cross-campus engagement.

Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

  • Participate in Career and Student Services team meetings and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Represent the Humphrey School in University committees or partnership meetings related to undergraduate education.
  • Support data tracking, reporting, and assessment efforts to inform program growth.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least four years of experience in higher education, student services, or a related area; or a master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience advising or supporting students in an academic or student development setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, public policy, or a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising, program coordination, or student engagement at a large, decentralized institution.
  • Familiarity with undergraduate advising systems and degree audit tools (e.g., APLUS, PeopleSoft, APAS).
  • Experience developing and implementing co-curricular programs, student success initiatives, or leadership development programs.
  • Knowledge of or interest in public policy, public service, or civic engagement pathways.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $59,800 to $66,500; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
