Accounting Supervisor - Remote

Essential Functions
  • Oversees accounting operations in corporate office, which include financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Participates in hiring accounting staff and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff.
  • Oversees the system of internal controls over accounting functions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the preparation of periodic financial statements and the corporate annual report.
  • Ensures that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for the audit(s).
  • Coordinates the preparation of the corporate tax return.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to accounting processes and procedures.
  • Oversee and assist in preparing journal entries including, but not limited to, bank activity, payroll, accruals and reversals
  • Review and assist in preparing monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including clearing variances
  • Responsible for generating customer invoice billings for CPFF and CPIF type contracts, including input to U.S. Government PIEE system
  • Reconcile billing log, monitor cash receipts, contacting customers if necessary
  • Provide support, mentoring and coaching to other Accountants, as needed
  • Serve as alternate to Accounting Manager
  • Participate in special projects such as accounting software updates and complex financial analyses
  • Other departmental duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel as well as strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must have MS Office Excel expertise and success in maintaining and organizing data. Skilled ability in the use of the logical, lookup and reference functions, as well as numerous mathematical functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, creative, and innovative and use critical and strategic thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform financial analyses, variance, and trend analysis.
  • Sound analytical, problem identification, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly analyze and synthesize data into actionable information to assist in prudent business decision making
  • Planning and organization skills to balance and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational skills with specific emphasis on attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Master's degree desirable
  • Eight or more years of accounting or finance experience required
  • Government cost accounting experience preferred
  • Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Experience working with accounting software
  • Experience with Costpoint and Cognos preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours to support specific project or mission requirements
  • This position is remote
  • U.S. citizenship required
