What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Sr. Program Manager for Logistics Optimization to lead strategic projects that move the Supply Chain organization forward through enhanced system implementations and detailed design of logistics flows. This role will lead initiatives associated to inbound and fulfillment logistics supporting different businesses at Tesla. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Supply Chain, Transportation, Manufacturing, Distribution and Operations.

This Sr. Program Manager needs to have passion for new products, ability to navigate ever-changing environments with moving priorities, extreme attention to detail and a bias for implementation. Conceiving ideas is great, but implementing them is what this role is about, and this person needs to have a demonstrated record of independently driving high-impact initiatives that cross different functions of Supply Chain, including logistics, procurement, systems, packaging, warehousing, manufacturing, yard management, material planning and production control.

As a key partner of logistics operations, the candidate needs to have great understanding of how real-life logistics teams operate, be up to date with regulatory environment from dangerous goods to trade compliance and DOT guidelines, possess deep expertise in route optimization, optimal mode selection, automation and ability to create complex models to optimize transportation solutions. Someone with the ability to switch between micro and macro level views of a problem swiftly and effectively, tailoring communication to the right audience, is critical for this role.

What You'll Do
  • Display a positive attitude and strong collaboration with multiple cross-functional partners to drive strategic projects through completion.Use past experience and own understanding of logistics operations to identify opportunities related to different flows supported by North America logistics organization

  • Create complex, but easy-to-understand models to drive decisions associated with process improvement and cost reductions. Use data to provide recommendation to operations teams on how to improve efficiency and reduce cost

  • Communicate with all levels of the organization to influence decision-making and changes in the operation. You'll have to get buy in from senior leadership and executives to implement your projects and communicate clearly with ground level employees to change approach in day-to-day operations

  • Identify optimal shipping modes for specific flows and programs, prioritizing net benefits to Tesla. Different scenarios may require different solutions at different times (LTL/LCL, FTL/FCL, Rail, JIT, Air, etc.)

  • Develop business cases for dedicated logistics operations with 3PL partners and/or internal resources to arrive at optimal cost for the network

  • Work with vendors and internal warehouses to maximize cube utilization through different approaches

  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes and implementing system solutions in partnership with technical program managers and product teams.Design optimal flow for reverse logistics, challenging status-quo and looking for opportunities to avoid unnecessary cost, ensuring smooth end to end processes

  • Partner up with procurement, accounts payable, finance and other teams to reduce manual intervention and identify optimal procure to pay system flows


What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial/Production Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in logistics and supply chain with strong background in ground transportation, JIT, route optimization, fleet management and reverse logistics
  • Minimum of 2 years driving key projects for a large organization with clearly quantifiable achievements and communication at executive level for progress updates and recommendations on improvements
  • Track record of success in managing end-to-end projects with high impact on efficiency metrics and cost reduction. Ability to influence others and understand top priorities of the organization and pivot accordingly
  • Experience solving complex problems in the face of ambiguity, dealing with and solving data integration issues. Familiarity with simulation software
  • Deep knowledge of dangerous goods and DOT regulations as well as international trade best practices and packaging qualification testing (ISTA)
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%

    Expected Compensation
    $100,000 - $186,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
