Job Description - Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Position Description
Coordinate and track maintenance compliance with national and regional reliability standards for Distribution Services. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current and future standards, monitoring maintenance due and completion dates, and ensuring that proper maintenance documentation is provided. The main goal is to avoid noncompliance violations due to missed maintenance dates and/or paperwork. Responsible for reviewing existing, and coordinating, the development of new reliability compliance processes and procedures required to meet reliability standards. Responsible for assuring all Distribution Services NERC documentation is compliant with the current NERC standards.
Position-Related Responsibilities
- Perform formal reviews of the work that was completed previous month. Reviews will be completed within five business days of month end.
- Work with the individual departments to look at the annual planned work. Work with individual departments on a monthly basis to ensure work is properly scheduled before its due date.
- Review all of the source maintenance documents for errors or omissions. Review all of the source documents on a monthly basis.
- Ensure that all of the standards are being followed in accordance with the maintenance plans. Where adjustments need to be made the specialist can make the adjustments and ensure proper documentation.
- Coordinate Distribution Service's compliance with national and regional reliability and Regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for facilitating the development of processes and procedures required to meet regulatory standards and assisting responsible departments in the development of the same.
- Responsible to review and comment on changes to existing or the development of new Regulatory standards.
- Notify appropriate departments of new standards under development that need to be reviewed, and participate in the drafting of regional and national Regulatory requirements.
- Monitor evolution of Regulatory requirements from the Western Electricity Coordinating Council ("WECC"), the North American Reliability Corporation ("NERC") and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ("FERC") and coordinate and oversee internal compliance with same.
- Monitor best practices in standards compliance.
- Monitor audit experiences of other companies. Make contacts.
- Interface with auditors both internal at UniSource and external and assist to coordinate such audits.
- Coordinate document and compliance review processes to assure NERC Reliability compliance activities occur as needed.
- Track compliance deadlines and oversee compliance with same by relevant business units.
- Provide compliance training to relevant business units (e.g., standard review and interpretation and document preparation and retention).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, engineering, science or business, or their equivalent in training and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail. General regulatory/compliance and/or legal experience, and project management skills.
- Experience in the development of operating procedures and processes desired.
- Familiarity with NERC and WECC Standards, or general regulatory compliance.
Description

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, engineering, science or business, or their equivalent in training and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Information technology technical background or aptitude, general regulatory/compliance and/or legal experience, and project management skills.
- Experience in the development of operating procedures and processes desired.
Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
