Site Startup & Commissioning Lead Position Location: Childress, TX
Position Pay: $55/HR - $60/HR (Depending on Experience) + Per Diem Responsibilities:
- The Industrial Site Startup & Commissioning Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing startup and commissioning activities for large-scale industrial cooling and process systems.
- This role ensures all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems are installed, tested, integrated, and commissioned safely and in accordance with design intent, codes, and owner requirements.
- The ideal candidate has extensive experience with central cooling plants and/or process cooling systems, including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and PLC controls.
- This role acts as the primary technical authority during startup and commissioning phases and serves as the key interface between construction, subcontractors, vendors, controls teams, and the owner.
- Leads and manages all startup and commissioning activities for central cooling plants and industrial/process cooling systems
- Develop and execute detailed startup and commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls, and vendor startup activities into a single integrated effort
- Verify systems are installed per design & specifications prior to startup
- Oversee startup and commissioning of central utility plant, including Chillers, Pumps, Cooling towers and heat rejection systems, Heat exchangers, Valves, sensors, and instrumentation BAS, PLC, and industrial control systems
- Lead functional performance testing (FPT), integrated systems testing (IST), and reliability testing were required
- Troubleshoot system issues during startup and commissioning and drive corrective actions. Execute the punch list created by the commissioning agent.
- Serve as the primary startup/commissioning point of contact for the owner, construction manager, and design team.
- This position will serve as a liaison between the commissioning agent and the client's site construction management team.
- Participate in commissioning meetings, progress reporting, and client updates
- Review and approve commissioning documentation, test procedures, and reports
- Ensure completion and accuracy of pre-functional checklists, Startup reports, Test results and deficiencies logs
- Collaborate with engineering and site construction team to redline and submit as-built documentation
- Ensure site safety and conduct risk assessments and ensure safe startup sequencing
- Ensure quality control standards are met throughout commissioning
Responsibilities:
- 10 + years of relevant industry experience in industrial or mission-critical facilities
- Proven experience leading startup and commissioning of Central cooling plants and Industrial/process cooling systems
- Strong knowledge of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, piping systems, and controls integration
- Solid understanding of instrumentation, controls, and BAS/PLC systems
- Experience working in live or operational facilities preferred
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control sequences, and electrical one-lines
- Experience coordinating integrated systems testing (IST)
- Strong technical leadership and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders under tight schedules
- Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability
- Comfortable working in field-based industrial environments
- Extended hours and off-shift work may be required during critical startup windows
