Job Summary

The Journeyman Electrician will support operations and maintenance of electrical systems at the Bush Intercontinental Airport Central Plant. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical distribution systems and equipment critical to airport and central utility plant operations. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and experienced in commercial/industrial electrical systems within mission-critical environments.

Location: George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) - Central Plant
Shift: Varies (may include nights, weekends, holidays)
Position Type: Full-Time


Essential Duties

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems including:

    • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution

    • Switchgear, transformers, panels, breakers, and motor control centers (MCCs)

    • Generators, UPS systems, ATS/STS equipment

    • Motors, pumps, VFDs, and associated controls

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on central plant electrical equipment

  • Respond to emergency service calls and outages to support continuous plant operations

  • Assist with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure OSHA and NFPA 70E compliance

  • Coordinate work with operations staff, supervisors, and other skilled trades

  • Document work performed using CMMS or maintenance logs

  • Support commissioning, testing, and startup of new or upgraded electrical systems

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure work environment in compliance with airport security requirements


Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license

  • Minimum 3-6 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience

  • Experience working with critical power systems preferred

  • Strong understanding of NEC, OSHA, and NFPA electrical safety standards

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Proficient with electrical testing tools (multimeters, megohmmeters, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in central plants, power plants, airports, hospitals, or other mission-critical facilities

  • Knowledge of BAS/controls and electrical controls troubleshooting

  • Experience working in a union or regulated facility environment

  • Familiarity with CMMS systems

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call as required

Security & Compliance Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check and obtain airport badging

  • Must maintain compliance with all airport security, safety, and operational policies

  • Valid driver's license required
