Job Overview:

The Executive Director of Investigations oversees the statewide administration and operations of the Special Investigation, Child Fatality, Safety Action, Office of Access and Engagement, and Internal Affairs teams. This position is responsible for directing operations and ensuring alignment to the strategic goals of the Department. An employee in this class performs work of unusual difficulty and supervisory work of considerable difficulty; performs related work as required. The Executive Director of Investigations will devise and lead strategic plans in collaboration with the Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Juvenile Justice and Quality Compliance and will ensure consistent delivery of accurate, timely, and thorough investigations across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Quality Compliance in developing the long-term goals for Office of Quality Compliance.
  2. Oversees Special Investigations, Child Fatality Safety Action, Office of Access and Engagement, and Internal Affairs teams.
  3. Leads Special Investigations and Internal Affairs teams to conduct unbiased, accurate, timely, and thorough investigations.
  4. Ensures the consistent application of policies and practices of assigned teams.
  5. Collaborates with other Office of Quality Compliance Executive Directors in strategic development of the Office of Quality Compliance.
  6. Evaluates staff and makes recommendations on personnel actions.
  7. Partner with Juvenile Justice, Statewide Services, and Regional Operations teams to ensure continuity and consistency in the agency.
  8. Coordinates efforts with other agencies regarding child safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, Masters preferred
  2. 10 or more years in law enforcement conducting complex investigations to include best practices in documentation of the obtaining, preserving, and documenting of evidence
  3. 5-7 years' experience in a progressive leadership capacity
