Summary:

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a senior executive leader reporting to the System Chief Medical and Quality Officer with matrixed accountability to the President of UNC Health Caldwell. The CMO is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, efficient, and equitable care; for all medical staff affairs including privileging, credentialing, and peer review; for ensuring UNC Health Caldwell exceed all expectations set forth by the Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies; for leading strategic inpatient and outpatient clinical services in collaboration with UNC Health Caldwell's Vice President of Physician Services; and for building and nurturing a culture of quality, safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement across all of UNC Health Caldwell. The Chief Medical Officer will lead multidisciplinary collaboration across UNC Health Caldwell and UNC Health

Responsibilities:

1.Quality and Safety: *Partners with the CNO and other clinical and operational leaders to develop and implement the foundational strategy for all quality and safety initiatives at UNC Health Caldwell. *Integrate and align quality and safety goals and initiatives with the operational and administrative goals and initiatives of UNC Health Caldwell and UNC Health. *Directs evidence-based programs and practices that utilize established best practices and deliver continuous improvements in clinical quality and patient safety. *Builds a culture committed to delivering the highest quality, safe, efficient, and equitable care grounded in the foundations of high reliability throughout UNC Health Caldwell. *Creates an environment that champions innovation, supporting new approaches and initiatives that advance clinical outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and reduces care variation. *Ensures that UNC Health Caldwell is a leader in quality and safety among community hospitals as evidenced by exceptional patient outcomes and patient experience, as well as performance rankings in the top ten percent. *Implements quality measurement systems for internal and external benchmarking and ensures reporting to all required external and internal entities, meeting regulatory and accreditation standards. *Oversees quality data analytics, monitors trends, and guides active discussion and intervention in clinical outcome areas where improvement opportunities exist. *Benchmarks UNC Health Caldwell' performance against leading rural community hospitals and integrated delivery networks, striving to achieve top decile rankings in patient outcomes and quality measures. *Proactively seeks process improvement opportunities, adopts best-in-class solutions, and identifies new systems and practices to ensure efficient, high-quality healthcare delivery.

2.Medical Staff Affairs: *Provides oversight of UNC Health Caldwell privileging, credentialing, and peer review to ensure all medical staff are meeting all expectations of UNC Health Caldwell and regulatory bodies as well as are in good standing. *Leads the Medical Staff Office, and in doing so, serving as the administrative liaison to the clinical and hospital leadership. *Leads the Medical Staff Executive Committee. *Leads the Professional Executive Committee, which ensures professionalism standards of medical staff are upheld and consistent with the values of UNC Health. *Internally promotes and reviews UNC Health Caldwell' compliance programs, identifies gaps or potential liabilities, and works with leadership and the medical staff to address and correct issues.

3.Accreditation: *Provides clinical leadership in Joint Commission (TJC) and other accreditation activities to ensure ongoing preparedness for TJC or other regulatory surveys. *Serves as the principle clinical point person during on-site surveys.

4.Strategic Leadership of Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Services: *Coordinates clinical functions to ensure treatment of all UNC Health Caldwell patients in partnership with clinical and hospital leadership. *Supports strategic growth and advancement of clinical services offered to all UNC Health Caldwell patients in partnership with with clinical and hospital leadership. *Leads Medical Directors and other Physician Leadership roles assigned by UNC Health Caldwell leadership to support quality, safety and operational goals and initiatives. *Provides oversight and management of assigned hospital departments and services.

5.     Qualifications

    Education Requirements: *MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine.

    Licensure/Certification Requirements: *Board Certification Physician in a clinical discipline.

    Professional Experience Requirements: *A minimum of 12 years of clinical experience, with at least 10 years of clinical leadership experience. *Experience leading teams in clinical quality and safety initiatives that delivered measurable results *Knowledge of and experience in leading medical staff affairs including matters related to privileging, credentialling, and peer review.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: *Solves complex problems that have a long-term impact on the quality, safety, and operational functions for the clinical enterprise and health system. *Develops innovative ideas and solutions with significance to the organization's future. *Identifies problem areas and skill gaps proactively and addresses them appropriately. *Excellent project management and change management skills for designing and implementing Entity, Triangle, or System initiatives in a complex environment. *Extensive understanding of clinical practices and various medical specialties relevant to the organization. *Familiarity with hospital operations, budgeting, and financial management principles. *Skillful in interpreting healthcare data, identifying trends, and utilizing data to drive quality improvement initiatives. *Effectively lead and collaborate with the medical staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. *Adept at navigating complex situations, engaging in effective negotiation, and resolving conflicts constructively. *Lead and navigate organizational change initiatives while maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing disruption. *Stay up-to-date on healthcare trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
