This position is based in our Reading, PA office and is not a remote opportunity.

The Senior Substation Physical Engineer will provide engineering support for the design of substation facilities up to and including 765 kV for Worley and its customers. This role is an integral part of the Power Networks team and contributes to the successful delivery of complex substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead substation physical design, including overall engineering and analysis for new switchyards and substations, as well as additions and modifications.

  • Prepare technical specifications and provide procurement support.

  • Develop engineering drawings, including layouts and general arrangements for all major equipment and structures required for high-voltage switchyards or substations. Drawings include site plans, plan and elevation views, grounding, conduit, lighting, lightning protection and shielding, control building arrangements and details, AC station service, DC systems, and bills of material.

  • Perform auxiliary electrical power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing studies.

  • Conduct substation grounding calculations and studies, lightning protection and insulation coordination, lighting, bus calculations, transformer and bus sizing calculations, fault calculations, and AC/DC auxiliary system sizing calculations.

  • Support proposal preparation, including estimates and input to scope documents and client presentations.

  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment while maintaining the ability to work independently as required.

  • Ensure deliverables meet Worley and client quality standards.

  • Demonstrate commitment to customer service and work independently on varied and complex tasks as required.

  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate the work of engineers of equal or lesser experience to successfully deliver projects.

  • Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes and standards, schedule requirements, and budget constraints.

  • Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively with project personnel and external clients.

  • Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work.

  • Serve as a technical lead capable of solving complex issues and responsible for the quality of deliverables.

  • Interface with other departmental staff, project management, and external clients.

  • Travel to project sites as needed to perform site walkdowns.

  • Ensure proper document management procedures are followed and that drawings meet applicable standards.


What You Will Bring Technical and Industry Experience
  • Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and a working understanding of related engineering disciplines.

  • Familiarity with applicable local and international standards, statutory requirements, and regulatory requirements.

  • Proficiency in electrical engineering software.

  • Competent use of standard business software, such as MS Office Suite.

  • Significant technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in similar industries, including work on multidisciplinary projects and teams.

  • Experience in a project leadership or lead engineer role.

  • Experience estimating project costs and contributing to proposal development.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and designers.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • 8+ years of experience in substation engineering.

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
