This is a fixed term position that ends three years from the employee's start date.

Flexible work arrangements are available for this position, including the option to work remotely within the United States. Applicants residing outside of Texas but within the United States and its territories may be considered for remote work, pending approval by the Central Office.

Note: This position is not fully remote and will require occasional on-site work, typically 10-20 days per year.

This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

This position requires you to maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.

Purpose

This is a senior-level network DevOps position in the Enterprise Technology Core Networking team that will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure software systems in support of the university's network services. This includes developing front-end and back-end applications, integrating proprietary, open-source, and commercial software systems, and automating deployment pipelines with a focus on Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) systems. This position will participate in both development and operations of internal-only to customer-facing systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and operate software and applications in support of UT's Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) systems.
  • Participate in system architecture and planning for NAC and IBNS services.
  • Provide escalation support (tier 3+) for complex problems related to NAC and IBNS systems.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of current software development experience in Java and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • 7+ years of current/recent software development experience on Linux systems
  • 5+ years of current/recent sysadmin experience with Linux systems
  • Working knowledge of navigating and configuring mainstream consumer devices (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android)

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cisco IOS-XE and IOS-XR routers and switches
  • Experience with FortiNet firewalls
  • Experience with Angular
  • Experience with LAN and WAN routing and switching
  • Experience implementing network automation processes
  • Experience with Python, Perl, and UNIX shell scripts
  • Experience working in large university environments (30000+ students) supporting academic (instructional and research) and administrative functions
Salary Range

$120,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Occasional work outside standard hours is required (e.g., maintenance or incident response). Hours over 40 per week accrue compensatory time. The role includes 24x7 escalation and the expectation of being reachable when not on PTO.
