I. POSITION INFORMATION
| Job Description Summary: |
The George Washington University, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Antibiotic Resistance Action Center (
ARAC). The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team on projects that investigate the drivers of antimicrobial resistance (
AMR) and human microbiome-related risk factors for inflammatory and infectious diseases in One Health and climate-health contexts.
ARAC uses genomic, environmental, and epidemiologic approaches to assess how resistant pathogens emerge, spread, and impact human health and how environmental exposures impact the human microbiome.
This research position contributes to ARAC's scientific portfolio through independent data analysis, development of computational workflows, integration of genomic and epidemiologic datasets, and coordination of research activities with laboratory and external collaborators. Core responsibilities include analytic design, data management, scientific writing, and project coordination. This role works with a high degree of independence but with regular engagement from project PIs and collaborators.
The Postdoctoral Associate will be supervised by
ARAC faculty and will work closely with bioinformatics, epidemiology, and wet laboratory teams. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Analytics:
* Design and execute studies on
AMR, infectious disease epidemiology, and environmental
or climate exposures.
* Manage and analyze genomic datasets, including whole-genome sequencing, 16S rRNA
gene amplicon sequencing, and metagenomic data, using established and custom
bioinformatics pipelines.
* Integrate genomic, microbial ecology, environmental, and clinical datasets for statistical
and epidemiologic analyses.
* Develop, test, and refine analytic methods, data processing workflows, and visualization
approaches.
* Conduct literature reviews to inform research design and support methodological
innovation.
* Prepare manuscripts, figures, and supplemental materials for abstracts, presentations, and
peer-reviewed publications.
* Contribute to grant proposals, including analytic plans, preliminary results, and scientific
narrative.
Data Management and Communication:
* Maintain organized and reproducible data repositories, codebases, and documentation.
* Prepare analytic results, tables, and visualizations for manuscripts, presentations, sponsor
reports, and internal use.
* Present research findings at team meetings, collaborator meetings, and scientific
conferences.
* Assist in preparation of progress reports and deliverables for funding agencies.
Collaboration and Project Coordination:
* Participate in regular project team meetings and manage timelines, milestones, and
communication with collaborators.
* Internal facing coordination with senior research scientists and laboratory manager to
ensure alignment across dry and wet laboratory research for specific projects.
* Support other applicable study coordination tasks, including data acquisition, quality
control, and documentation.
Additional Contributions:
* Provide guidance to students and trainees.
* Contribute to essential laboratory or project operations as needed. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the award of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field by the date of employment. |
| Desired Qualifications: |
* Demonstrated experience with genomic data analysis, bioinformatics workflows,
epidemiologic methods, or environmental exposure research.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research
environment. |
| Hiring Range |
