National Grid is hiring a Lead Estimator for our Gas Estimating department. This hybrid role is based in Waltham, MA.

The Role

The Lead Estimator will prepare accurate and timely construction cost estimates for large-scale construction projects with minimal guidance. Estimates will include all aspects of a project that factor into the overall cost.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare accurate and timely construction cost estimates with limited information
  • Assist and coach senior estimators, estimators, and associate estimators with estimating best practices review and sign off on their estimates
  • Build effective relationships with Construction, Operations, Engineering, Resource Planning, and additional stakeholders to improve estimate quality
  • Presents, explains, and justifies project estimates to senior management and relevant stakeholders
  • Work with the Manager to drive continuous improvement and review policies and procedures
  • Assist with the analysis of past estimates vs actual spending to drive estimation improvements
About You
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in the performance of construction, engineering, project management, or estimating required
  • 3+ years of experience in gas utility construction, maintenance, or engineering required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Power BI required
  • Working knowledge of SAP and IBM Maximo preferred
  • Field experience performing or supervising gas main replacements preferred
  • Knowledge of main and service contracts preferred
  • Valid driver's license required

Salary

$132,000 - $155,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
