The laboratory of Dr. Alyssa Huff is looking for a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Huff's Lab investigates the neural control of airway protection in mouse models of human disease ( https://hufflab.smhs.gwu.edu/). We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated individual to provide research support and contribute to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory environment.

The Senior Research Assistant should be proficient in small animal stereotaxic surgeries, and behavioral assays. The Senior Research Assistant should have experience in tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and quantification. This position can expect to receive mentoring and guidance from the PI to advance their career in academic, industrial, and private research. They will work with other researchers in the lab to support a collaborative research environment. The Senior Research Assistant should be able to think and execute protocols and procedures independently.

Responsibilities include:

  • Animal husbandry, colony management and ear tagging.
  • Assist in mouse stereotaxic surgery and post-operative care.
  • Assist in experiments such as behavioral studies and monitoring, data processing and analysis.
  • Assist in mouse tissue harvest and processing, including but not limited to microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
  • Assist in maintaining lab organization and stocks of buffers, solutions, and supplies.


Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the PI from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Hiring Range $18.06 - $27.52
