Brief Overview
Reporting to the APRN and Medical Directors, the Per Diem Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides inpatient psychiatric care to children and adolescents on the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and the Community Based Acute Treatment program at the Waltham campus. This role supports inpatient clinical operations, including emergency response and admissions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond in person to psychiatric emergencies, including restraint and seclusion events
    • Perform patient examination and complete/sign required orders within one (1) hour, in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Perform occasional inpatient admissions, including medication reconciliation, psychiatric assessment, and Mental Status Examination
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, DMH) and payer contracts
  • Schedule: Per diem on-call coverage including weekends and overnight. Minimum requirement of one (1) week (7 days in row) of overnight call (6:00 PM-8:00 AM) per three-month period and participation in weekend on-call coverage Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM with rotation of one shift approximately every 5-6 weeks
  • Must reside within one (1) hour of the Waltham location and be able to respond on site when on call
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing
Experience:
  • At least 1 year of professional experience performing psychiatric evaluations and psychopharmacology services.
  • Prior experience with children and adolescence preferred
Licensure/ Certifications:
  • Massachusetts licensure as Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse.
  • ANCC certification as a Psych NP or Clinical Nurse Specialist

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
