The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for optimizing production processes by defining current state, collaborating with a cross functional team to define a future state, perform a gap analysis, and manage a project plan achieve the future state. A successful candidate will be familiar with tools such as time studies, takt time/cycle time, value stream mapping. Additionally, this role will also have additional focus on ensuring that the organization's products and services follow the company's quality requirements, a successful candidate will have a quality at the source mentality and familiar with poka-yoke and able to define operator standard work to ensure quality is built and not inspected into the product.
- Apply and train VSM, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S skills to effectively map the manufacturing processes to identify and implement process improvement opportunities and developing/documenting factory capacity and bottleneck analyses. Develop capacity improvement plans for inclusion into CI or capital planning.
- Must have a change agent mindset to lead factory initiatives around safety, quality, continuous improvement (CI), lean manufacturing, mistake proofing, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Lead cultural change to a lean philosophy through communication of vision and expectations.
- Daily presence on the manufacturing floor to observe work, engage technicians, verify process adherence, and resolve real-time production issues.

- Assess and recommend the purchasing of manufacturing equipment, installation and commission. Facilitate operational cost reduction through productivity or material cost improvements supporting annual objectives.
- Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing procedures/processes, including instruction manuals, documentation, pictures, step by step procedures, and training.
- Through application of the duties listed herein, first priority is to ensure our customers are satisfied with the quality of the product sold to them. Secondarily is to assist the Director of Quality in solving internal quality problems that lower production efficiency and increase cost due to rework.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and adherence to the quality program.
- Audits work performance to standard operating procedures.
- Leads root cause analysis to help resolve quality defect issues.
- Primary focus on process improvement and future state work, with required hands-on floor support to stabilize and sustain production
- Experience with Toyota Production System (TPS) or some other enterprise lean implementation methodology is a bonus.
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent previous work history in a manufacturing environment
- 1-3 years experience in a manufacturing, quality, or production support role
- Ability to travel up to 15%
- Proficient with AutoCAD & Excel
- Exposure to Lean manufacturing concepts
- Experience as a quality or manufacturing engineer in a mission critical business space
- Basic project coordination experience or demonstrated ability to manage tasks and timelines
- Strong ability to explain topics and influence others
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bias toward action with a willingness to learn and take ownership
- Ability to exercise professional influence with tact and ethics when dealing with vendors, co-workers, and customers
