Position Purpose

Manages and advances ASTM's existing academic outreach and emerging professionals programs and explores, develops, and deploys other complementary next gen programs to achieve strategic objectives.


Key Responsibilities


Program Management

  • Grow and support student chapters
  • Expand the emerging professionals program
  • Connect students and emerging professionals with technical committees
  • Incorporate standards into classroom and chapter settings
  • Manage programs like graduate scholarships, professor of the year, and internships
  • Monitor program progress, resolve issues and initiate corrective actions
  • Report on program status to senior management


Strategic Planning

  • Regularly benchmark and compare similar programs across standards organizations and STEM societies
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms to engage with staff, members, faculty, and program participants to identify new opportunities or opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Create proposals for new types of programs to foster connections with students and emerging professionals
  • Assist with annual operating and capital spending plans
  • Organize workshops to generate new engagement ideas
  • Coordinate program objectives against strategic objectives of the division and organization


Outreach & Promotion

  • Build relationships with industry leaders to promote next gen involvement and collaborate on shared programs between ASTM and industry sectors.
  • Present ASTM programs to industry and universities
  • Work with the Standards and Membership Promotional Director and Marketing to promote academic and emerging professional programs
  • Identify partnership opportunities for program growth

Organization Role

Reports to Vice President of Membership Engagement. This is an upper-level professional role in the Member Engagement Division. This position does not have responsibility for direct reports but may provide work direction to others on certain occasions to accomplish tasks and goals. This position does not initially supervise other division personnel but has potential for future supervisory roles.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years in business, project planning, operations management, or standards development
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Willing to travel 30% of the time

  • Student training program experience
  • Knowledge of standards industry
  • Program development or program management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Organizational and planning skills
