Job Description




As a Security Officer - Admissions Lobby Desk in Chicago, IL, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Education, and more. As a Front Desk Officer at a dynamic higher education campus, you will be the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and guests. You will help manage access, greet and direct visitors, handle badges and sign-in, answer phones, and respond to security-related concerns with calm, clear communication. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service at the front desk by following security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities within an educational location.
  • Greet, screen, and direct students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors; issue visitor credentials and/or verify identification per site policy.
  • Control access through lobby entry points by monitoring sign-in processes, managing keys and/or access cards, and coordinating with site contacts for approvals.
  • Answer phones and assist with general inquiries, directions, and coordination of services while maintaining awareness of security-related concerns.
  • Monitor alarms, cameras, and/or other building systems from the front desk and report irregular activity to site leadership and/or Allied Universal supervision.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including medical events, disruptive behavior, and facility issues, and request additional support when needed.
  • Document security-related incidents, visitor activity, and shift events using written logs and/or electronic reporting systems.
  • Assist with package and delivery intake processes per policy, including routing items to appropriate departments and reporting suspicious items.
  • Support special events and peak traffic periods by coordinating entry procedures, managing queues, and communicating with site stakeholders.
  • Help to deter unauthorized access and/or policy violations through professional presence, clear communication, and consistent application of site procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
