Fox News Media is looking for a Field & Bureau Engineer to work out of our LA Bureau. The Field & Bureau Engineer is tasked with timely and professional support in a fast-paced, 24/7 field newsgathering and production environment. Individuals in this job have demonstrated expert-level skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to meet the full range of field engineering responsibilities including being Engineer In Charge (EIC) on field productions when requested by management.

Your responsibilities will include driving the satellite vehicle, setting up daily live shots, and building multi-camera live shows with other members of field operations.

You must be able to move smoothly from field to bureau assignments, while also keeping field trucks updated and ready to deploy.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provide technical support to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated streaming, audio and video remote broadcast production/television equipment.

  • Coordinate technical installation and upgrades with vendors and/or production teams. Periodic project-based work to help team evaluate new transmission/encoding systems.

  • Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials (electrical, conceptual drawings), and project work material as applicable

  • Downlink and uplink satellite feeds, fiber, IP, remote, and studio feeds

  • Operate satellite news vehicle; maintenance of satellite news vehicle

  • Safely drive company owned and rental vehicles

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • 5 years of broadcast engineering & satellite news vehicle operation experience

  • Working knowledge of CAD & broadcast design

  • Valid driver's license and passport

  • Must be an independent thinker and self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and have a solid understanding of technical terminology

  • Must demonstrate versatility and willingness to perform varied tasks as required on field assignments which may include operating video/audio equipment

  • Strong understanding of computer networking including MAC & PC OS operation

  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems and being able work independently and autonomously in a team-based environment

  • Technical knowledge of HD satellite and digital parameters, fiber, routers, waveform & vector scopes, switchers, proper audio and video levels, digital media

  • Strong understanding of fast-paced live television news events

  • Flexibility and capacity to work in a high stress, breaking news environment

  • Capability to travel with the ability to deploy at a moment's notice to support the demands of a 24-hour news operation is essential, including overtime and weekends

  • This role will require your ability to lift equipment over 30-50lbs, standing or sitting for long periods of time

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $49.00-55.00 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
