Position Description

The Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor of Practice in Sport Management position to begin September 1, 2026.

This position is assigned to the online teaching of 8-week courses that are offered as part of five 8-week terms, scheduled throughout the year (two in the fall, two in the spring, and one in the summer) to provide better flexibility to non-traditional students who represent a significant part of the online student population at Texas Tech University. All courses in these 8-week terms are offered asynchronously.

While appointed to this position, you will accrue vacation and will be required to report leave monthly following TTU's Operating Policy 70.01 and TTU System Regulation 07.12. About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management enrolls approximately 400 undergraduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and about 100 master's degree students in the M.S. in Sport Management. The department offers a B.S. in Kinesiology and M.S. in Kinesiology for over 1,300 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, respectively. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology. Its building includes six classrooms, a student computer lab, and faculty offices.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications


  1. An earned doctorate in Sport Management or a related area.
  2. A minimum of three years teaching a variety of graduate sport management courses, such as financial management in sport, administration of intercollegiate athletics, sport ethics, sport event management, sport law, sport leadership, sport marketing, sport media, player personnel management, and sports analytics.
  3. A minimum of three years' experience developing and teaching online sport management courses.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Evidence of high-quality teaching online at the university level for at least five years.
  2. Experience in online course development and pedagogy.
