Overview

The Senior Principal Trainer, Epic is a key contributor to the success of Epic electronic health record (EHR) system implementation and optimization across the organization for the EHR and related systems. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering advanced training programs and instructional materials that empower end-users to effectively navigate and utilize Epic and related applications. Training content includes detailed manuals, quick reference guides, e-learning modules, and interactive learning experiences tailored to diverse clinical and operational roles. Working in close collaboration with the Principal Designer, Clinical Informatics, IT teams, and operational leaders, the Senior Principal Trainer ensures that all training materials are aligned with organizational workflows, Epic system functionality, and clinical best practices. This position plays a strategic role in enhancing user experience, driving system adoption, and supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Through continuous engagement with stakeholders and a commitment to innovation in education, the Senior Principal Trainer contributes to the overall effectiveness and sustainability of Epic training initiatives across the enterprise.

Note: Due to the nature of this role, incumbent may work hours other than daytime, Mon-Fri.

Responsibilities

    Plays a pivotal role in the design, development, and delivery of Epic training curricula that reflect Children?s Mercy?s clinical best practices and operational standards. Ensures that training programs are accurate, effective, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of end-users across the organization, ultimately supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Provides advanced expertise in Epic system and related system functionality to build, configure, and maintain the MST training environment, ensuring it accurately mirrors the production system and supports effective, realistic end-user education. This role is critical in preparing the organization for successful training delivery, system upgrades, and optimization efforts.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders, Clinical Informatics, and other key stakeholders to ensure Epic training programs and related programs are aligned with validated workflows, clinical best practices, and organizational goals. Serves as a strategic partner and subject matter expert, helping to bridge the gap between system design and end-user experience.
  • Proactively participates in organizational education initiatives, department meetings, professional committees, and strategic projects to support continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation in Epic training and system adoption. Contributes to a culture of excellence by staying informed, sharing expertise, and engaging in professional development that enhances both individual and team performance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred or 6+ years' experience in a healthcare, IT, or training setting with advanced computer knowledge. Previous work with EHR systems, particularly Epic is strongly preferred. or
  • High School diploma, or equivalent, and 10+ years' experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Experience should be in a healthcare, IT, or training setting with advanced computer knowledge. Previous work with EHR systems, particularly Epic is strongly preferred as a Principal Trainer.
  • At least one application-specific Epic Principal Trainer certification relevant to the department (determined by role leadership) Required within 120 days of hire. Must complete Epic certification training if not already Epic certified in the most recent version of the Epic EHR product.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $45.83/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.



Remote Work/Work from Home

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children's Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
