ECU Tuscany is East Carolina University's flagship study abroad program, housed within the Office of Global Affairs. Running during spring and fall semesters, in addition to the summer term,
ECU Tuscany is located in the picturesque medieval village of Certaldo Alto, a short train ride from one of Europe's centers of art and culture, Florence, Italy. The unit provides a wide range of international experiences to
ECU students, while offering courses in the general education curriculum. |
| Job Duties |
The Assistant Director for Study Abroad Programs is a full-time position responsible for managing logistical, administrative, and financial aspects of ECU's study abroad programs, including its flagship program based in Certaldo, Italy. This position involves a high level of independent decision-making and authority in overseeing both the daily operations and the long-term strategic development of the program. The position requires frequent travel.
Primary responsibilities include managing operating budget(s), including preparation and submission of budget reports to
ECU; facilitating logistical arrangements; overseeing
ECU classroom and lodging facilities; creating, developing, and distributing all marketing materials for the
ECU study abroad programs, with an emphasis on the
ECU Tuscany program. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with Directors on all aspects of program administration and serves as a program resource in support of faculty, staff, students, and institutional partners.
The Assistant Director also provides leadership in student engagement and community life, participating in various program activities and travel, monitoring students' well-being, assisting in emergency situations, and helping enforce the program's code of conduct. Additional duties include interviewing and onboarding local staff, supervising trainings, and resolving employee relations issues as needed.
The Assistant Director must accept on premises lodging as a condition of employment in order to properly perform the duties of this position when traveling abroad for Tuscany (or other) programs.
This position will be primarily based in Greenville, NC with frequent and/or extended travel to Italy or other locations abroad. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

| Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
* Experience with multimedia equipment and related software programs - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Adobe Creative Suites, including Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, and Premiere Pro.
* Familiarity with IT hardware and software administration and issues related to data backup and digital filing of multimedia files
* Experience with facilities management, including operation of appliances, washing machines, thermostats, and heating equipment.
* Experience managing personnel and other resources.
* Experience supervising and managing study abroad program budgets.
* Experience creating visual materials used for marketing purposes.
* Experience supervising and working with students on study abroad programs in Italy.
* Experience as a professional event or marketing photographer for higher education institutions.
* Experience using
Emburse Enterprise software to reconcile expenditures and develop reports. |
