We are seeking an intern with a background in electrical, computer, software, space systems engineering, or similar fields to demonstrate their skills on multidisciplinary teams working on a variety of technological innovations in defense and national security applications. You will be joining a team of hardworking engineers, software developers, data scientists, and analysts committed to evaluating the nation's space systems throughout their lifecycle. As an intern...

  • Your primary responsibility will be working closely with other software developers and systems engineers to build models and analyze United States Space Force architecture performance.
  • You will quantitatively analyze test data to ensure mission requirements are met.
  • You will learn and understand military satellite communications.
  • You will develop software tools in MATLAB, Java, and other applicable languages.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Space Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar fields.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have a strong desire to learn and explore new software development technologies.
  • Possess strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • To access APL's facilities and networks, US Citizenship status is required, subject to applicable laws.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience or knowledge of higher level programming languages (e.g. Python, C++, Java) and analysis tools (STK, MATLAB).
  • Have experience with Space Systems Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering, Satellite Operations, or Satellite / Network Communications.
  • Are accustomed with agile and scrum software development principles, including software project and configuration management tools to perform issue tracking, automated unit testing, continuous integration, and version control tools (e.g. Git).

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
