Job Description

The University Libraries at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) seek an entry-level librarian to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Public Services, this position holds non-tenure track faculty status (NTT) and will be hired at the rank of Librarian I. The Access Services Librarian is responsible for the provision of excellent service and the efficient operation of interlibrary loan and other circulation duties. We are seeking someone with strong interpersonal skills who is enthusiastic, customer service-oriented, and interested in working in a highly collaborative and innovative environment. With nearly 15,000 students, the University of Missouri-St. Louis is the St. Louis region's premier public research university. Department Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform Access Services functions including circulation and interlibrary loan
  • Keep statistics describing the use of access services and assist library administration in the preparation of various reports requiring those statistics
  • Coordinate hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student assistants assigned to Access Services in conjunction with other Access Services staff

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and staff through research consultations, library instruction sessions, shifts at the Public Service Desk, and other means
  • Select library resources, prepare research guides, and liaise with academic departments in the Sciences
  • Participate in library and university activities as well as engage in scholarly and professional service activities
  • Some evening and weekend work required
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Librarianship/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program at the time of appointment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively adapt to and use new technologies and software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional work experience in an academic library
  • Academic library experience in access services
  • Familiarity with Tipasa or other Interlibrary Loan software, FOLIO, Adobe Acrobat, and/or Springshare software
  • Experience supervising student workers
  • Background in reference services, collection development, and/or instruction
