What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Cellular Systems & Carrier Engineer to join our Wireless Connectivity team. In this role, you'll take ownership of the architecture, design, and validation of LTE/5G-based solutions for telematics systems, ensuring robust connectivity that powers autonomy and seamless Robotaxi operations. The position demands strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, cellular carriers, and external suppliers to build effective carrier relations, address interoperability challenges, and drive market expansion initiatives. You will thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines, driving high-quality results under pressure.


What You'll Do
  • Develop comprehensive testing frameworks and methodologies for Tesla's cellular protocol stack across platforms including Cybercab, ensuring seamless integration with cellular network implementations from various carriers
  • Collaborate with carriers and network operators to address specific requirements, interoperability issues, resolve carrier-specific challenges, and support market expansion initiatives for Robotaxi deployments
  • Investigate and mitigate network-related issues reported from fleet telemetry, customer feedback, or field deployments, identifying root causes and implementing solutions to enhance connectivity reliability for autonomy
  • Design and implement KPIs and metrics to measure product/network performance, user experience, and service quality, using data-driven insights to drive optimizations and inform product improvements
  • Analyze telemetry and deployment data to identify fleet-wide trends, potential bottlenecks, and opportunities for better carrier partnerships and network efficiency
  • Drive continuous improvement in best practices, fostering collaborations with internal and external teams to deliver high-quality, scalable connectivity solutions
  • Lead and manage key tasks to completion, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products with meticulous attention to detail

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with a focus on Wireless Communication, Networking, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in the Cellular industry, with a strong emphasis on cellular deployment strategies, carrier relations, and interoperability testing
  • Deep expertise in cellular technologies (5G, LTE, UMTS, CDMA, and GSM) with strong system-level understanding of end-to-end network architecture
  • Proven track record in resolving interoperability issues with carriers and addressing carrier-related challenges such as spectrum/resource allocation, and service level agreements
  • Experience with field trials, IoT, IODT, or related testing environments
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.)
  • Proficiency in building data visualization dashboards using Splunk, Grafana or other query languages
  • Experience with cellular test equipment (e.g., R&S CMW 500, Anritsu) and familiarity with field trials, IOT (Inter-Operability Testing), carrier certification processes
  • Experience in Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including continuous integration and code maintainability
  • Familiarity with embedded interfaces (e.g., UART, I2C, I2S, SPI, CAN, PCIe) and experience with scripting languages such as Python, C, C++ is a plus
