THE OPPORTUNITY

The Intern-RF Test and Circuit Design Engineer reports to the Senior RF Engineer on the Engineering team. The successful individual in this role will learn and support the design, simulation, testing, and characterization of RF circuits and systems. This internship offers hands-on experience working with real-world RF hardware, laboratory instrumentations, and design tolls in a collaborative engineering environment.

This internship is full-time, fully onsite, Monday through Friday, at our office located in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA.

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential functions of this internship opportunity.

ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Assist in the design and analysis of RF and microwave circuits (e.g., amplifiers, filters, matching networks).
  • Support schematic capture, simulation, and layout using industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Perform RF measurements and characterization using laboratory equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Develop and execute test plans, document results and present findings to the engineering team.
  • Assist with PCB bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting on RF hardware.
  • Contribute to design reviews and engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, hardware, and test engineering.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced RF engineers.
  • Learn practical skills directly applicable to a career in RF, wireless, or hardware engineering.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-progress Bachelor's degree or in-progress Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Coursework in RF/microwave engineering, analog circuits, or electromagnetics.
  • Basic understanding of RF concepts such as S-parameters, impedance matching, gain, noise, and linearity.
  • Familiarity with laboratory measurement techniques and instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug testing.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with RF simulation tools (e.g., ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, CST).
  • Exposure to PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence, KiCad).
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for data analysis and automation.
  • Prior internship, lab, or project experience involving RF or high-frequency circuits.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hands-on experience designing and testing RF hardware in a professional engineering environment.
  • Exposure to the full hardware development lifecycle, from concept through validation.
  • Mentorship from experienced RF engineers.
  • Practical skills directly applicable to a career in RF, wireless, or hardware engineering.

CA Pay Range: $28.60 - $33.80 / hourly [in-progress Bachelor's degree]

CA Pay Range: $42.00 / hourly [in-progress Master's degree]
