Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing the successful and efficient operations of the Safety Claims Administration Team, including management of the related processes and systems. The position handles complex and escalated claims issues, while supervising the claims administration team in the successful execution and delivery of processes, ensuring a high level of customer service and that services are responsive to the client's needs. Additionally, the role identifies and implements process improvements to ensure claims processes run smoothly and support the company's foundation of Best at People across the organization.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
  • Supervise and lead the Safety Claims Administration Team; manage personnel matters and provide coaching, counseling, and training to support team development.
  • Partner with the Safety Team to establish and oversee best-in-class loss control practices for personal injury, motor vehicle, general liability, and property damage claims.
  • Oversee complex, high-exposure, and legislated claims, setting strategy, priorities, and escalation protocols.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with the insurance carrier, insurance broker, and Terracon leadership on escalated claims matters, in partnership with the Director of Safety.
Customized Solutions
  • Serve as liaison between injured employees, medical providers, and supervisors to support care coordination, return-to-work efforts, and Terracon's value of Caring.
  • Lead investigations of incidents and near misses to identify root causes and partner with operations on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and hands-on support for select complex claims while coaching and developing Safety Claims Administrators and Safety Professionals.
  • Collaborate with insurance carriers and legal counsel to prepare and review discovery and claims documentation.
  • Maintain oversight of state Workers' Compensation logs to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
Client Partnership
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with insurance claims adjusters and carrier partners.
  • Communicate proactively with claims adjusters to advance claim resolution and support timely settlements and closures.
  • Participate in carrier and broker led claims reviews and strategy sessions.
  • Coach and influence operational leaders to promote consistent claims management practices and a strong safety culture.
Operational Excellence
  • Develop and recommend effective claims communication strategies.
  • Analyze claims-related KPIs and trends to assess effectiveness, inform decision-making, and provide insight to leadership.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative developments related to Workers' Compensation and claims management; recommend updates to policies and processes.
  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Participate in industry and professional organizations related to claims management.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of and minimize project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices. Engage APRs on projects at their onset.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, organizational development, or related field and 7 years related experience. Or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 11 years' related experience.
  • The position involves access to confidential employee wages, driver's licenses, and medical information. Maintaining a high level of professional confidentiality is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and confidence with a wide variety of employees and leaders as a trusted advisor; ability to influence individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Business acumen or ability to quickly acquire business knowledge.
  • Advance knowledge of Excel, including proficiency with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and advance formulas
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.
Preferred Certification:
  • Workers' Compensation Professional (AMCOMP WCP), Associate in Claims (AIC), or any other workers' compensation or claims certification appropriate for advancing claims management knowledge.
