This is a hybrid remote position. When onsite this position will be located in our offices in Malone, NY.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Prepares Financial Statements (All)

Obtains financial information from internal/external customers as required. Reviews and analyzes the financial information received for accuracy and completeness. Reviews and/or processes the transfer of data from subsystems to the general ledger. Performs and reviews reconciliations of asset and liability accounts for designated sections of the financial statements or an entire related entity. Determines that all transactions relating to designated sections or an entire related entity have been recorded. Prepares and posts journal entries in a timely basis. Assures that all journal entries are recorded timely. Prepares and files appropriate backup for all journal entries recorded in the general ledger. Meets Financial Statement deadlines. Prepares Financial Statement reports that will be distributed to senior management. Possesses specialized knowledge in one or more of the following: MD compensation, tax, captive insurance.

Prepares Workpapers (All)

Prepares and files workpapers to substantiate designated sections of the financial statements. Obtains, creates or copies relevant detailed information for inclusion in the workpapers. Cross-references the backup information with the summary schedules. Assures completion of timely and accurate workpapers. Promptly answers any review comments and make changes as necessary. Analyzes, reviews and processes large volumes of financial data.

Performs Financial Analysis and Related Responsibilities

Exercises judgement to determine the adequacy of estimates used to prepare the financial statements. Recommend and implement process improvements for their areas of responsibility. Recommend and implement standardization across financial statement sections and related entities. Maintain strong communication regarding banking relations, and oversee daily cash reconciliation processes. Perform research of unusual or nonroutine transactions and recommend correct recording of such transactions. Understand and be able to prepare financial statements including elimination entries. Understand all major software systems used by the accounting department. Prepare reports of specified accounts outlining trends over time and report unanticipated and/or significant deviations to management. Analyze expense accounts current month vs. prior month, Actual vs. Budget and explain variances.

Provides Internal and External Customer Support and Performs Administrative Tasks

Answers questions regarding the financial reports distributed. Assists auditors with the year-end audit, and respond to audit issues raised by outside auditors. Prepares requested schedules for the year end audit. Prepares appropriate footnotes for inclusion in the audited financial statements. Works directly with Financial Specialist to resolve financial reporting and recording issues. Serves as key liaison to Hospital and Medical Group Finance Teams with regards to interpreting financial data and identifying areas of concern. Works effectively with peers and co-workers to attain common goals. Helps develop stronger skills/competencies in other Accountants. Communicates well (verbally and in writing) to keep Accounting staff, manager, director and customers abreast of progress and issues. Attends department staff meetings. Participates in cross training of various sections of the financial statements as assigned by lead and/or manager to enable coverage during vacations and assure the meeting of all reporting deadlines.

Completes Statutory Filings and Reviews Work Papers

Draws on resources both inside and outside of Finance to gather data regarding statistical information, special events, grants and scholarships, community activities, square footage and payroll information to complete annual Tax Return (i.e. 990, 990T, 5471, 1065, 1120, 1120S). Researches, interprets and follows tax laws. Converts financial systems data into tax return format Possesses knowledge and ability to prepare reconciliations of tax vs. GAAP treatment of various items. Supports filing of various required cost reports.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required, three or more years of Accounting required. - Direct healthcare system experience, CPA preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of health care accounting. Knowledge of desktop PC applications (spreadsheets/word processing) and general accounting software required. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is desired and required. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment. Ability to assimilate, and retain high levels of detail, and deal with an ever-changing environment. Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A self-starter who is able to work independently and able to handle multiple tasks.
