Position Title: Social Service Coordinator

Department: The Salvation Army, Gateway Corps

Reports To: Gateway Corps Officer

FLSA Status: Part-Time / 29 hours per week; Non-exempt

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Social Service Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and executing the Corps social service program. This includes, but is not limited to, interviewing and assisting clients, distributing food boxes, and making recommendations for financial aid to Officers for approval. They organize and maintain the various pantries and refrigerators, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to food safety regulations. They are responsible for overseeing the soup kitchen, including placing supply orders, securing volunteers, enforcing food safety regulations, and cooking when volunteers are not available. The Social Service Coordinator also oversees all USDA Commodity reporting and distribution. Additionally, they assist in general office work, recordkeeping, and statistical reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Minimum 1 year of work experience in a Social Services position.
  2. High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  3. Ability to complete any and all assigned trainings.
  4. Have the ability to work well independently and in a detailed, professional, and courteous manner.
  5. Have the ability to work on a dynamic, high-performing small team.
  6. Have the ability to work independently to meet goals set by leadership.
  7. Current food handler's card or the willingness and ability to obtain a food handlers card within 30 days of placement.
  8. Must be at least 21 years of age with a current driver's license with acceptable driving and criminal history reports.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:



  1. Be a fast learner and able to keep pace with multiple priorities.
  2. Be flexible and open to new Ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things!
  3. Ability to Interact In a positive and graceful manner with others.
  4. Proficient in use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), multiline telephone system, and general office equipment; ability to perform general mathematical calculations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITONS:



  1. Ensure client health and safety while maintaining clean, safe work areas.
  2. Communicating with clients, supervisors, and co-workers.
  3. Supervise volunteers in accordance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  4. Keep the kitchen, pantries, refrigerators, and dining areas clean and tidy.
  5. Maintain daily Temperature logs.
  6. Answer the telephone as needed.
  7. Use equipment and systems such as a computer, reporting software, a phone, and a time clock.
  8. Be proficient in Microsoft Word and MS Excel.
  9. Show up on time and be flexible with hours, additional help should be needed.
  10. Maintain statistics and ensure the numbers are accurate and reported in a timely fashion.
  11. Administer the USDA Commodities Program and Emergency Food Program.

    1. Inventory Control and Record Keeping.
    2. Maintain and Input forms and applications.
    3. Distribute food.
    4. Complete Monthly Reports.
    5. Train and supervise volunteers.
    6. Input and maintain stats in WellSky, as well as any other forms requested by leadership.


  12. Maintain a positive attitude when speaking with and collaborating with clients, partner agencies, volunteers, and coworkers.
  13. Coordinate/develop donor partnerships with local grocers and food distributors. Maintains an excellent, responsive rapport with donors, scheduling pickups and taking products in a way helpful to vendors.
  14. Operate The Salvation Army vehicle as needed to pick up food from the Food Bank distribution points and/or deliver food and supplies.
  15. Maintain millage logs, gas receipts, and inspects the food bank vehicles daily for any safety or maintenance issues and reports them to management.
  16. Assist with Adopt a Family, Angel Tree, and seasonal Toy and Food Distributions.
  17. Attend trainings as required, including but not limited to Protect the Mission- child safety training, CPR certification, and The Salvation Army fleet safety training.
  18. Be willing to attend all orientation meetings/classes.
  19. Make every effort to get along with co-workers, not causing friction or rifts in the staff.
  20. Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code policies.
  21. Maintain FEMA files in accordance with all policies and best practices.
  22. Assist in the accurate recording of monthly Gift in Kind (GIK)
  23. Aid in writing thank-you letters to volunteers and donors.
  24. Supervise daily Soup Kitchen activities from 10 am to l pm Monday through Friday.
  25. Cook the daily Soup Kitchen lunch if no volunteers are available.
  26. Interview clients and distribute appropriate assistance.
  27. Distribute vouchers for the thrift store and communicate with the Store Manager and Officers regarding any specific clothing or furniture Items.
  28. Make food boxes as necessary,
  29. Assist with seasonal intake and distribution.
  30. Ensure all work areas are clean and locked up before leaving each day.
  31. Participate in the development and Implementation of donation drives and collections as it pertains to social services.
  32. All other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an indoor, store environment. Exposure to extreme temperatures is not a condition of this job. Noise level is generally low.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, run, jump, and twist. Maintain the ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as boxes or furniture, reach overhead, and carry store supplies. Maintain the ability to operate a computer, telephone, and similar technologies. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to learn and adhere to proper lifting techniques, always wearing a back brace when lifting heavy items.

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Software-related Skills: Microsoft Excel familiarity preferred. Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow, and give both written and oral instructions and be comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills: Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess a desire to learn and assist those he/she interacts with.

Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.

Driving Requirement: Must be a licensed driver with an acceptable driving history. I must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.
