Summary

The Director of Construction provides strategic leadership and oversight for a team of Construction Managers responsible for the execution of energy infrastructure projects including pipelines, pump stations, compression facilities, processing facilities, and related civil and mechanical installations.

This role manages a team of Construction Managers responsible for multiple concurrent capital projects and brownfield upgrades. The Director ensures safe, compliant, high-quality execution in accordance with PHMSA/DOT regulations, ASME and API standards, welding and coating specifications, and company integrity requirements.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in pipeline and facility construction, deep technical knowledge of welding processes, coating systems, and heavy industrial construction practices, along with demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-project teams across geographically dispersed sites

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Construction Managers and Inspectors overseeing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Responsible for supporting preconstruction activities such as constructability and route development, support bid process, contract development and contractor selection with the Project Manager.
  • Provide oversight for construction execution by working directly with Project Managers across the organization.
  • Properly staffing the Inspection Teams per the ET QAM manual.
  • Establish performance expectations and drive accountability across all field construction activities.
  • Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and HSE leadership to ensure alignment.
  • Monitor project performance metrics (schedule, cost, safety, quality).
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure inspection teams monitor field execution that aligns with IFC drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Conduct field audits and safety reviews.
  • Oversee inspection plans and forecasting on larger projects so that projects are adequately staffed and de-staffed over execution.
  • Drive cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence

Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12+ years of progressive construction experience in the energy or heavy industrial sector.
  • 5+ years managing Construction Managers or multi-project construction teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large capital projects ($50MM+ preferred).
  • Working knowledge of API, ASME, AWS, and NACE standards.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification.
  • NACE Coating Inspector certification.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Experience with union and non-union labor environments.
  • Experience with EPC project delivery models.

  • Usually, field and field office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
