Job Summary


The Vice President, Pediatric Strategy and Business Development (VP) serves as the senior strategic leader for the pediatric services UCSF Health delivers across the continuum of care, including at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. The Vice President is responsible for shaping, articulating, and advancing a unified strategic agenda that supports the priorities for pediatric services and the broader UCSF Health enterprise vision.

Operating in a highly complex, matrixed environment, the Vice President partners closely with the UCSF Health Chief Strategy Officer, pediatric leadership, department chairs and chiefs, and peer strategy executives to define near- and long-term strategic priorities; lead annual and multi-year planning; and drive disciplined, data-informed decision making. This leader provides strategic insight into market dynamics, competitive positioning, partnership opportunities, and enterprise alignment, ensuring that pediatric strategies are innovative, feasible, and aligned with UCSF Health's organizational goals.

The Vice President leads integrated strategic and business development efforts-including service line planning, opportunity assessment, network and affiliation strategy, and new program development-leveraging strong analytics, cross-functional collaboration, and relationship building across clinical, academic, operational, and external stakeholders. As a key strategic advisor to senior leadership, the Vice President plays a critical role in identifying and executing initiatives that enhance the growth of pediatric services, strengthen UCSF Health's market position, and support transformation across the system. The Vice President fosters an environment of partnership, accountability, and cultural alignment, ensuring consistency and cohesion across enterprise priorities while tailoring strategies to the unique needs of pediatric services and the patients and families served by UCSF Health.

Leads enterprise-aligned strategic planning and business development initiatives for pediatric services across UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals and the broader UCSF Health system. In partnership with the UCSF Health Chief Strategy Officer and pediatric leadership, defines and advances strategic priorities that support both pediatric service line growth and UCSF Health's enterprise strategy.

Directs integrated strategy and business development activities including service line planning, market opportunity assessment, network and affiliation development, partnership strategy, and new program development. Provides strategic insight informed by market intelligence, competitive analysis, and healthcare industry trends to guide executive decision making and support UCSF Health's leadership in pediatric care.
Collaborates across clinical, academic, operational, and administrative teams to ensure alignment of pediatric initiatives with enterprise priorities. Oversees strategic planning processes, opportunity evaluations, and implementation planning to advance growth, strengthen market positioning, and support transformation across pediatric services.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

The salary range for this position is $400,000-$500,000 (Annual Rate).

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals are part of UCSF Health, one of the nation's leading academic health systems, dedicated to advancing health through excellence in patient care, research, and education. Pediatric services span multiple campuses and care settings and include specialized tertiary and quaternary services, community partnerships, and a growing network of affiliated providers and programs.
The pediatric strategy and business development function supports the long-term strategic growth, innovation, and transformation of pediatric services across UCSF Health. Working closely with clinical leadership, academic departments, operational leaders, and enterprise strategy teams, the function identifies opportunities to expand access to pediatric care, strengthen market position, and develop innovative programs that improve health outcomes for children and families.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare strategy, business development, partnership development, and market assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning and growth initiatives within complex healthcare systems.
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and implement partnership and affiliation agreements.
  • Highly advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with the ability to translate market and financial analysis into strategic recommendations.
  • Advanced leadership and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate with senior executives, physicians, and external partners.
  • Strong financial and business planning skills including development of business cases and ROI analysis.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with experience facilitating executive-level strategy discussions.
  • Advanced ability to direct, influence and motivate staff, project team members, senior executives, physicians and leaders at partner institutions.
  • Advanced ability to lead business planning, innovation development, and implementation for a multi-faceted health system.
  • Highly advance knowledge of strategic business planning, development, and market assessment,
  • Highly-advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Advanced conceptual skills.
  • Advanced project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly-advanced verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills including the ability to positively interact with executives, providers, and staff at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working in academic medical centers or integrated health systems.
  • Experience in pediatric healthcare strategy or children's hospital systems.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or closely related field.
