HJF is seeking an Audio Visual Engineer III to implement integrated audio-visual technology solutions to meet client and project requirements. This role will provide technical and project oversight and programming support related to updating and repairing existing systems and the introduction of new technology solutions. Ensure seamless, high-quality communication and presentation experiences by testing, troubleshooting, repairing, training staff and optimizing hardware and software.

The position is located in the Office of the Vice President for Information and Educational Technology (CIO), Multidiscipline Laboratories (MDL) at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

  • Wire and install audio-visual equipment, rack systems and cabling for various venues (i.e. conferencing rooms, event venues, studios). Make recommendations on improvements and repairs required for consistent system functioning in MDL spaces.
  • Proactively test, service and repair audio-visual systems to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot as needed in MDL spaces.
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting for video conferencing, live streaming and audio/video playback. Test audio DSP and video processing systems software for system functionality. May be required to provide documented results from system testing in MDL spaces.
  • Configure, optimize and program control systems (e.g. AMX, Crestron, Extron) and networked audio/video equipment in MDL spaces.
  • Manage projects from design, planning, execution to completion including recommending vendor selections and coordination, vendor management, documentation and managing project budgets.
  • Design new systems using Microsoft Visio in MDL spaces.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct authority over hiring decisions, performance management (including corrective action), staffing assignments, and merit increases.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree is Required; Audio Visual Technologies, Computer Information Systems or Electronics is preferred.

  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and project planning/project management skills.

  • Ability to create training materials for systems end users.

  • Outstanding customer service skills and the ability to train personnel with different levels of technical ability.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment and follow-through.

  • Knowledge of tele- and videoconferencing techniques.

  • Ability to support user acceptance testing and commission of AV systems.

  • Ability to use test and calibration equipment.

  • Advanced electronics including digital/analog electronics and advanced signal flow for audio, video and control systems.

  • Audio visual (AV) control systems (AMX, Crestron and AMX) including programming of these AV control systems.

  • Knowledge of various personal computer platforms (Macintosh & Windows 2010 & 2011).

  • Programming Biamp, ClearOne and Polycom digital sound processors (DSP).

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex systems.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Security Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

  • Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.

  • Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.

Licenses and Certifications

  • AVXIA Certified Technology Specialist Installation level (CTS-I) certification.

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary for this position is $93,100-$156,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
