The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe operation of Engineering and Maintenance services at Montefiore's Weiler campus. This role provides both administrative and operational leadership, ensuring alignment with hospital-wide objectives and departmental fiscal goals.

In addition to overseeing daily engineering operations, this position carries collateral responsibilities in administrative support for both the Engineering and Fire & Safety departments. The Engineering Supervisor manages administrative and fiscal processes, technical functions, and staff performance to ensure the hospital environment is properly maintained, regulatory requirements are met, and high quality service is consistently delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the Engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous functioning of facility systems.
  • Supervise technical staff, assign work orders, monitor performance, and ensure timely completion of repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers to support facility maintenance and engineering operations.
  • Manage administrative processes for Engineering and Fire & Safety, including documentation, reporting, and departmental communications.
  • Support budget planning and monitor fiscal performance to ensure achievement of departmental financial objectives.
  • Oversee inventory, purchasing, and procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, maintenance logs, regulatory inspections, and equipment warranties.
  • Ensure that all engineering operations support a safe hospital environment and comply with Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Partner with Fire & Safety leadership to support fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and life safety initiatives.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify risks, inefficiencies, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote quality service delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide coaching, training, and support to engineering staff to enhance technical and operational capabilities.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, clinical departments, and support services to address facility needs and ensure effective service delivery.
  • Participate in on call rotations and respond to facility emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training in engineering, facilities management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or facilities operations in a complex institutional environment (healthcare preferred).
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.

Preferred

  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS work order systems.
  • Certifications such as CHFM, OSHA training, or trade licenses (electrical, HVAC, plumbing).
