A Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the daily availability of materials and maintaining accurate information in the system through both administrative and manual tasks. This role requires a high level of independence, critical thinking, and hands-on involvement in organizing and planning warehouse operations. The Material Planner plays a key role in supporting efficient production flow and optimizing warehouse operations while upholding Wabash's safety standards and core values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:



  • Reviews BOMs daily for each SO to identify new parts and sets parts up correctly; identifies potential issues.
  • Assists in determining root cause for inventory discrepancies and if BOMs need correction.
  • Reviews exception lists and short lists to ensure inventory is correct and on-hand.
  • Costs and releases production orders.
  • Enters picks.
  • Submits work order corrections, production order requests and blocks/conversions.
  • Monitors parts to avoid production delays.
  • Assists in search for missing materials and clean up of unnecessary materials.


  • Perform a variety of computer related activities to ensure daily materials availability and accurate systems information.


  • Primary job functions require exercising independent judgement.


  • Adheres to the general safety plan.
  • Able to work in adverse climate conditions (hot, cold, dark, loud, etc.).
  • Wear all required PPE such as shoes, gloves, sleeves, safety glasses, face shields, respirators, hearing protection, heat-shielding hoods, jackets, fall protection, etc.
  • Liaises with buyers, planners, etc. as necessary to develop accurate PFEP that optimize sales and margin performance.
  • Analyzes performance metrics, such as turns, margins, and sales to provide recommendations that identify potential opportunities to improve productivity of space.
  • Demonstrate and embrace all the Wabash Values and Leadership Principles in daily activities.
  • Able to flex work schedule depending on the needs of the overall production team. Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. Demonstrate the highest regard for individual safety, the safety of co-workers, and the safe use of the equipment in the workplace.

Qualifications:



  • High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, with the ability to effectively engage with all levels of the Wabash organization, including corporate partners and suppliers.

  • Ability to read and use tape measure, calipers, and gauging equipment.

  • May need specific knowledge of product design, sales, engineering, inventory storage practices, material procurement, and manufacturing processes.


Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:

The work requires climbing of over six (6) feet in height using a ladder or scaffolding and to bend and stoop to reach the underside of the tanks. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, and climbing for approximately 30% of the shift and standing for approximately 70% of the shift. Working conditions may consist of loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust.

Physical Demands:

A full range of motion in the arms and hands is essential. The employee must be capable of lifting up-to 50 pounds and working in environments that may involve climbing ladders, stairs, trailers, or platforms. The role may involve exposure to adverse conditions, including extreme temperatures (hot or cold), low lighting, loud noise, confined spaces, and prolonged periods of kneeling or bending. Additionally, the position may require the use of various power tools, hand tools, and manufacturing equipment, along with the consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires minimum of eight hours standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling with a full range of body mechanics/movements.

Regularly required to lift and carry up to 35 (thirty-five) pounds. Frequently required to lift and carry up to fifty-five (55) pounds. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

Must be able to work in an environment requiring use of ladder, stairs, heights, platforms and climbing in and out of trailers or working under trailers in tight spaces.

Must have ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools safely, work with compressed air safely, operate fork trucks safely and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE)
