Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Engineer, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base, TN in our Propulsion Branch. The Test Operations Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining ground test facilities in support of the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Open to internal or external candidates. The selected candidate for this requisition must be available to work long hours as needed based on the priority of work at any given time.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will function as the subject matter expert for the operation and sustainment of test and plant assets to conduct testing in the Propulsion Branch. The engineer selected for this role will own responsibility for configuration management, provide guidance to operations staff, and ensure technical rigor of systems level engineering. It is an important aspect of this role to develop, facilitate, and encourage collaboration within the Propulsion branch as well as across other branches in seeking technical solutions. The selected candidate will be responsible for representing BNH in discussions with or presentations to clients, management, customers, and senior technical personnel, thus, comfort in verbal presentations and ability to effectively explain highly technical approaches to a broad audience is critical.

Job Duties:

    Configuration Manager for system assets maintaining the asset hierarchy and ensuring commonality, interface management and change control while supporting reviews, audits, and configuration control boards
  • Support capital improvement investment and maintenance projects providing support to planning, design, fabrication, procurement, installation and activation/ commissioning of new hardware and systems including Systems Engineering reviews
  • Provide leadership and technical advice to entry level, junior level, and peer level engineers
  • Provide strategic planning, gap identification, and solution recommendations to meet future AEDC needs and programs
  • Support asset maintenance programs focusing on Reliability Centered and Condition Based Maintenance with the key responsibility for maintaining Asset Condition Assessments and Sustainment Status changes
  • Provide support to annual budget (CARA) and Future Year Defense Program (FYDP) for Propulsion mission area
  • Provide advice and guidance to Test Operations Director and Propulsion Branch Manager regarding Continuous Improvement and Life Cycle Management
  • Serve as consultant to the Test Operations Director, Propulsion Branch Manager, Engineering Advisory Board, specialty engineering, and scientific groups providing advice and counsel on special and unique assignments
  • Review engineering or scientific concepts, drawings, calculations, and specifications
  • Participate directly in new business efforts involving specialized and unique engineering or scientific applications
  • Provide guidance and direction to specialty scientific or engineering personnel in the development of plans, criteria, and specifications, while assisting with deploying common engineering work processes throughout the TOS contract
  • Screen and recommend selection of special outside consultants; coordinate their activities and monitor their performance
  • Conduct or lead special studies on economic feasibility of new technologies, methods, and materials
  • Conduct or lead mishap and incident investigations and related root-cause analyses
  • Serve on or lead company-level technical committees
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited university plus a minimum of 8 to a minimum of 10 years of progressive and relevant engineering experience. A MS degree in Engineering from an accredited university plus a minimum of 6 to a minimum of 8 years of engineering experience per the description above would be acceptable.
  • Experience as a Test Operations engineer, Plant Operations engineer, and/or Systems Engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Complex
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in operating turbine engine test assets and equipment
  • A professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized engineering licensing board
  • Knowledge of scientific or engineering systems, calculations, applications and fabrication methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application of computers
  • Knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in engineering or scientific discipline
  • Examples of skill in oral and written communication, particularly in making complex technical issues understandable to an audience that may not have the same level of technical background
  • Experience/ Examples in leading special assigned efforts such as mishap investigations, large project design reviews, developed or led teams developing unique operational approaches/ equipment for ground testing, been a member or chaired a technical society or code committee or sub-committee
  • Past or current participation in the activities and proceedings of technical and professional societies and recognized national boards
