Job Description:

This posting is within the Technology Department as part of Southwest's Warrior Hire Program. The mission of the Warrior Hire Program is to recruit and hire transitioning Veterans and guide and support them through the beginning of their corporate career by providing them opportunities for professional growth, camaraderie, and mentorship.   • Integrated Data Foundation Platform Team: As an Associate System Engineer supporting the Integrated Data Foundation Platform Team in Technology, you'll build the cloud based data lakehouse that will power Southwest's future as a data driven company. You'll design and develop scalable data platforms that collect, govern, and deliver the right data to the right users across the enterprise. In this role, you'll work hands on with Python and AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Lambda, Terraform, and Step Functions, with a strong DevOps and agile mindset. You'll collaborate closely with Senior Engineers and Technology Leaders while working on cutting edge platforms and emerging technologies to help shape the foundation of enterprise analytics at scale.

Additional Details

  • This role allows for voluntary remote work for the majority of your working time within the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with occasional on-site presence at our Corporate Campus for training, meetings, and business needs. This role may also require limited travel for business purposes.

  • If an applicant currently resides outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, they may relocate to the area and be considered for the program. Relocation Assistance is not offered for this role.

  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

  • Work with team to research problems, plan solutions, recommend software and systems, and coordinate developments in an orderly manner to meet business requirements

  • Monitor and test performance and capacity for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with partners to implement fixes

  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability and resolve escalations of simple to medium complexity

  • Assist in the implementation and updates to the platform strategy and road map

  • Maintain awareness of technology trends in area of responsibility

  • Meet commitments and deliverables as related to participating on projects

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary

  • Provide technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems

  • Review test strategies and quality standards with the Engineers on the Team

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems of simple to medium complexity

  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making

  • Basic knowledge of hardware components, systems, software, and networking technologies

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation within specific technology areas

  • Skilled in basic partnering, negotiation, and communication in working with Business Customers and Technology support

  • Knowledge of systems development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies obtained through formal training and/or work experience

  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming

  • Ability to develop, present, and communicate ideas and strategies in both technical and user friendly language to small to medium audiences

  • Skilled in project management and analytical/creative problem-solving

  • Skilled in written, oral and interpersonal communication

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Required: Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in system engineering

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

  • Must be able to travel and / or attend Company and non-Company facilities and remote locations such as remote-based offices as necessary

Pay & Benefits

Competitive market salary from $89,450-$99,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
