Overview
The Budget Center facilitates uniform, strategic, and transparent budget processes across the University. The Budget Center is a service organization that provides information and analysis to decision makers, enabling them to align program priorities with resources. Staffed with full-time finance professionals, the Budget Center relieves schools and other units of most financial administration, thereby presenting these areas with opportunities to redirect staff effort or reduce costs.
What You'll Do
The Assistant Director, Budget Services serves as Budget Center business partner for a single school or unit providing budgeting and planning advice, guidance and information to meet customers' financial planning needs. Responsible for managing assigned Budget Analysts.
- Manages relationship with School or Unit customers - Executive Associate Dean or Unit Vice President and program managers, serving as the primary point of contact. Provides timely, accurate and detailed information, advice and metrics to support area management decisions. Works closely with area leadership to resolve inquiries and issues in a timely manner. Supports implementation of methodologies to ensure continuous improvement in service levels.
- Manages assigned Budget Analyst staff to include providing appropriate training, assigning resources to meet constituent requests, planning, monitoring and reviewing performance. Ensures staff work toward service targets fostering a culture of continuous improvement and customer focus. Enables professional development.
- Responsible for annual budget development and forecasting processes and delivers to Finance & Planning a summary of assigned school or unit's budget and forecasts. Manages the baseline budget package development for Sr. Director and School/Unit leadership review, performing analyses as required. Revises and updates as necessary. Identifies, tracks and reports out-of-budget cycle adjustments for approval. Assesses budget performance by reviewing data, performing analytics and identifying and resolving variances. Provides strategic guidance to key constituents on funding risks, opportunities, and assumptions.
- Working with Human Resources, Research Administration, Tufts Support Services and Finance and Planning, drive process efficiencies, best practices and superior customer service for overlapping business processes. Identifies process improvement opportunities.
- Partners with Finance & Planning on new program development, capital project, and long-term financial planning initiatives. Assists Finance and Planning in the development of school-based long range financial planning and other models and capital budgeting.

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
- 5+ years' experience with budgeting and financial management
- Demonstrated experience working with senior staff across an organization
- Demonstrated experience managing staff
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Budget/financial management knowledge/expertise as is typically acquired through Bachelor's degree in related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or other advanced degree in financial management or accounting
- Higher education experience
- Experience managing information systems
- Experience with organizational transformation
Pay Range
Minimum $116,500.00, Midpoint $145,600.00, Maximum $174,800.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
