Job Summary:

The role of the Tooling Set-up position is to help standardize tooling set-ups, decrease down time between jobs by having tools ready to go, and saving the machinist time by breaking down and analyzing used tooling. The mission is to have the right set-ups ready for jobs to be ran before they are needed. Organize the department to ensure accessibility to tooling as needed. To maintain Min/Max levels on standard tooling using the tool index system.

Responsibilities:

  • Tooling Set Up: Set up tooling into tooling holders based on setup sheet instructions. Gather fixture plates and/or jaws to be used during the machining process. Marry tooling and fixturing together with material and place in staging area. Identify worn & damaged tooling and quarantine for scrap or regrind. Obtain and execute direction from supervisor.
  • Organization: Use the tool monger system to keep tooling & fixturing organized. Keep staging area jobs in order of priority to avoid machinist time waste.
  • Purchasing: Communicate low tooling inventory levels to department supervisors. Submit purchase requests to purchasing department. Manage Tool Boss inventory communications. Communicate to saw department when materials are not at material staging area.
  • Verification of Product: Get feedback from machinists regarding tribal knowledge information. Give feedback to supervisors when setup information is incorrect or needing updated.
  • Participate in work instruction creation - Use time not allocated to setting up tools and jobs to work on work instruction creation as designated by the production manager.

The experience you have:

  • Education, Experience, Certifications, Licenses: Required: High School diploma or GED. Preferred: Machine Tool Technology, or related subject-area; or Trade School Certification in a related discipline or Apprenticeship. Basic computer skills with the ability to operate within a MS Windows environment. Usage of Data Collection software and ERP system is required.
  • Language Skills: The ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, setup sheets and travelers is required. Effective interpersonal and communications skills through a variety of methods is required.
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency with basic level math skills is necessary, including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret a wide range of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form is an on-going requirement.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires standing and walking for the majority of the day. Bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, handling, fingering, reaching, lifting and pulling are necessary throughout the day as well. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
  • Work Environment: The work environment for this position is that of an industrial machine shop/production facility. Employees may experience loud noises (at varying levels), sharp edges (tooling and material), oil, and coolant, throughout the workday. Eye protection is required. Employee will come in contact with acids, cleaning solutions, alcohol, chemicals, and inks.
